How does your work deal with big snowstorms? If your workplace is open are you expected to be there? Is it up to the individual if they can make it in or not? Is absenteeism during a snowstorm looked "down upon" but they would never formally tell you that it is?

We have everything from the hardcore guys that have "never missed an hour of work because of snow in 40 years" all the way to the person that can't come into work because of flurries. There is no standard or communication as to what is expected.

We never completely close up the place because of snow They never tell us we have to come in during a big snow and they never tell us we should stay home either. From a liability standpoint it is probably in their best interest I would think.

No idea what I am going to do tomorrow as it probably won't be that bad in the morning but will get worse as the day progresses. Winter Storm warning at midnight tonight through noon tomorrow then the Blizzard warning takes over at noon tomorrow through Friday at 3 am.

I work at a small shop so if I can get there to open the doors, we're open. Given that some won't be there, but we can always get something done no matter how many don't show.

If we are kinda slow we can call it off by calling everyone before they leave in the morning.

I work in an operations center of a major bank. If we aren't open it effects people not only across America but other countries as well. So, it takes a helluva storm before management will decide to shut the place down. It has happened one time in the 3 years I’ve worked there and was only for half a day.

For the past seven years I have worked in capacities that made in mandatory to go to work in any type of weather. That being said, some employees just don't understand what mandatory means. Oh well, I just go into work. If we have a problem getting to work, they will come get us in jeeps. Really no excuse not to be at work during inclement weather unless a serious personal or family emergency.

I just turn the computer at my dining room table and start working there. Do that even if we are "officially" closed. We may get closed here but around the country the rest of the workforce is still open.

10 years ago the GM closed the office due to a blizzard. Half the people went to the bar to be safe rather than home. Since then we don't close but everyone has the choice to use their personal time hours or vacation hours to get home if they want.

If the snow is too bad, I stay at home, my computer is linked to the office server, I work from home...however, that rarely happens, I got a 4X4 Jeep, it take a lot to keep me out of the office !!!

If you don't come in they make you take vacation time.
The frustrating part for me is that I (and many of my coworkers) could do 99% of my job from home, yet I have to drive into the city every day. Everything is done on a computer or phone, there is only face to face interaction because sometimes its nice to walk around & stretch your legs once in a while.

I get out of bed, walk down stairs in my PJs and sit down in my chair. No snow days for me!

It's frowned upon unless it's really bad or if your kids have to stay at home due to school. In those scenarios we just work from home.

Obvious answer in my line of work. Snow days, 2hr delays (my favorite), and early dismissals.

As a self employed milk hauler my truck has to go 7 days a week no matter the weather. I've drove In some of the nastiest weather one could ever Imagine. Blizzards, tornado's, Ice storms, -35+ below temps, you name It. The cows don't get It off so I can't either. My job has to be one of the worst conditions at times to work In. I do take pride In getting all of the milk picked up In time at the dairy farms. In 12 years of being a milk hauler not once has a farmer had to dump any milk from there tank (there tank gets full If I'm late).

I work alone at a branch location of our main office. I have to come to work regardless of weather.

Snow? What's that? I will say on this last deployment, when the snow hit it was so awesome....having to clean off the blades of the helicopter in order to go fly missions, but it did make it a LOT easier to identify if you did hit the bad guys with your M4 from the aircraft.

I just received an e-mail that stated our Green Bay office was closed today due to weather. So I guess most of the employees just work from home.

I know the one time we closed our office due to a hurricane, we just worked from home.
