Saw this today on 'Backwoods Life' Facebook page. All I can guess is a lot of beer and someone saying "Hey, watch this".
Well you can look at it the other way.. at least it was thru the nose. if the arrow would of been 2 inches in the other direction it would of been thru the temple and he'd be dead.
believe that is a speargun spear. have one that looks just like it in the garage. the spear range can exceed visibility in the water and if one focuses on fish and losses track of the other divers or swimmers it could happen. But either way, it was close. if they were using a powerhead that would really suck....
Whatever he was doing when that happened, I bet he won't do it again. He was actually very lucky though. Still gross!
This is the future of this great Country!! God help us !! Hopefully the young man is alright, but the stupidity level of these youngsters is at a new high!!
Yes, it's a spear gun spear, and I'm guessing it happened during loading. I've seen guys load them using their toes; business end pointing up towards the person doing the loading.
not to debate conjecture but given the angle of the spear through the nose, see no way that was self inflicted. normal cocking procedure for a band powered gun is to brace the handle in your gut and use both hands to pull the band toward you and set the metal loop on the band in the notch so if for some reason the gun fired its going away from you. if for some reason he tried to cock the bands backwards using your toes (?) and the gun fired it would be straight at you, up the nose or whatever. if it was a air powered gun you tried to force the spear in with it facing toward you still see no way to get that angle through the nose. seems likely just accidently hit by someone else using the speargun, whether shooting at a fish or whatever. I read the Tshirt to say Bahamas and if he was on a party boat with a bunch of divers with spear guns am not surprised. as earlier folks noted, he was lucky it wasn't a inch or two further toward his ear. .
Band slipped off toe; reaction flinch turned head away. Seen it happen in person, just not with that result.
