I am new to archery. August of 2010 was the first time I had ever shot a bow. I shoot compound and love it. I now own a public archery range. We opened back in March. March 19th was our opening day. It is an outdoor field archery range and we have a tree stand lane also. I love shooting no matter what it is. I am going to try my hand at a 3D competition and depending on how it goes we may build a small 3D course at our range. We have about 10 acres to work with. I really don't want to put to much in the woods because I hunt on our property also. back to my original question. I would like to at least have some sort of idea on how these competitions are scored before I go to the competition in August. It will be the first North America Archery Assassination North Carolina State championship. The location is not going to be announced until later in the year as it is a brand new course that will not be seen until the first day of he competition, which I like the idea of that. How do these shoots score?? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
That depends. The major organizations you will see are NFAA, IBO, and ASA. Each one handles scoring differently. Depending on which rules the host club has adopted, they can decide to change the scoring to make it more fun, or hold tightly to the 'standards' to make it a sanctioned event. The best course of action is to contact the host club and ask about scoring for this particular event. Also, ask about range and equipment classes as you will need to know that going in.
