Vacations are for hunting. Wife doesn't like to travel or spend money. I love her way too much to want to change her. I know I've got it rough trying to keep her happy... but I somehow manage !!! Go sit on a beach ?? YUCK !!!!! Go to another country ?? No Thanks !! I'll go find me a cattail slough... hunker in and enjoy" MY " country waiting for a deer to come by. Tis a perfect vacation of no people, no phones, no problems and enjoying nature. Tim
Typically I've done a lot of long weekend type vacations, and kept the majority of my time off for hunting. Vegas, Ocean City, Put-in-Bay, etc. I've also done a lot of camping weekends, with a lot of hiking. Nascar races are also mini-vacations to me. A couple summers ago we spent a week bouncing from the Nascar race in NH, to hiking in Vt, to a few days in the fingers lakes of NY. Awesome trip, strat to finish. I need to be doing something on vacation or I get bored after a day or 2. Although a tropical resort sounds cool & all, I'm more of a mountains person. And so is the new squeeze. I can see us heading somewhere remote and hiking days on end thru the mountains.
My wife and I have 2 totally different ideas of vacation so we usually end up doing both. She like the mexican beach resort vacation so we usually do that during spring break (she teaches). We try to stay at a different part of mexico every time, still trying to figure out this years destination. My idea of a vacation is going north to Lake of the woods walleye fishing. We did that this past summer. We went there one year, stayed at the Barcelo beach resort. I loved the area but didn't really care for the resort, just too big for my taste.
Beach of some sort in the summer, long weekend in the fall in the mountains (cabin). The wife and daughters love the beach, I could care less for it. We always do a couple days of activities and dinner/shopping at night. I use one week of my 4 weeks vacation for whatever they decide, this year it's Disney. We put in a in-ground pool last year in place of a big vacation, so I'm hoping this will curb some of the future beach trips.
i like to come back tired! from all the fun i had and things i did and saw. hate the beach and sitting around. hate the heat too
My vacations are around the house building/fixing/taking care things and hunting. My wife and daughter go to far away places and do things.
My kids are 10 and 8, and they have never seen a beach and they're pi$$ed about it. I am taking the family on a cruise this March, so that they will quiet down. Our vacations ususally consist of driving to a destination (or series of destinations) and doing stuff in between. We do like to have some down time, but mostly like to go and do stuff. We spend our time hiking, swimming (kids and I - wife doesn't like to swim) exploring, etc. On various vacations we've spent a few days in Denver, Albuquerque, Sedona, AZ; Steamboat Springs, Sonoma Valley, CA: San Francisco, and Orlando (to see the big rat), and other places to see family. We can't travel with other people, because meshing their schedules and ours would drive my wife insane.
My vacation for the last 6 summers has been going up to my fiances parents cabin on Torch Lake in the U.P. It is awesome and both my fiance and I love it. When we go we take the dog and just have a great time for a week. We spend our time boating, hiking, taking long scenic drives, eating pasty's, shooting my bow, relaxing on the lake, drinking a little too much some nights, and of course fishing. The best part about it is that we both enjoy everything about the vacation. We don't have to do any compromising with our time. It is the highlight of our summer every year! Talking about it now makes me excited to get back up there already!
Vacations for me is getting away from small town Ohio... Being young and 21, beach resorts can be a good time. Also, the yearly Fire Department Instructors Conference in Indianapolis is a damn riot. But my favorite vacation is sleeping in a tent in the snow on a mountain in PA for the trout opener.
I am a beach bum when I am not in the woods. I would rather be in the woods most of the time but, the beach is my get away. I do not like crowded beaches such as Myrtle well, South Myrtle anymore. I like beaches like Ocean Isle, NC and Sunset. ones that don't have tons of people or stores. I like my toes in the water and butt in the sand and a nice breeze!!
Here lately it seems I have done well if I even remember my vacations. lol I spend more time out of state hunting than vacationing though, probably 60-40 split.
Barbados? Have been taking a trip or 2 a year to the Denver area. About a 7 hr drive from here.. and always something to do around there... especially visiting the endless amount of Breweries. Staying at the high end ski hotels after ski season, and some white water rafting sometimes. Always a pretty cheap trip.
Key West. Fishing, bars, and relaxation. There are things for me and the lady and we are walking distance to everything.
Week family vacation with my wife's entire family at the beach. It is a blast. We have about 20 people in one giant beach house. I also like to take about two weeks off to hunt each fall. I also meet up with my friends each March for a couple of days in Ocean City MD for a guys 3 day weekend. After that, it is a day here and there to do whatever.
I've done both. Hawaii we did activities everyday and most of the day (hiking, toured Pearl Harbor, luau, hiking, snorkeling, hiking, coffee plantation tour, eating, hiking, eating....). We only sat at the beach one day for about 90 minutes. In Mazitlan, we did the pool in the sun thing for the entire time. Different vacations, different experiences. Both have their place. My next vactation is going to be Fall of 2013, elk hunting in Colorado... also different
I'd love it Schultzy! Not much available around the 4th, but we just sent out deposit requests so the week might still open up a bit
I mostly spend my vacations on mission trips. I have gone to post Katrina Gulf Coast 9-10 times to rebuild homes. Last spring, I took a team to Slidell to build a home for a National Guardsman who was being deployed to Haiti. This past year, I have been really busy with Tornado cleanup crews. My son is a year round competitive swimmer, so we go to a lot of swim meets around the Southeast. Other than that, we take off to the beach and to the mountains once or twice each per year. When I have time, I bowhunt and fish for bass and catfish and hopefully will soon begin my doctoral studies.
