How do you stop people at a restaurant bar from talking to you?

Sit at a table.... have a nice double Tanquire.... order a nice meal.... have a nice glass of wine. If someone messes with you tell them to buzz off.... I'm busy. OR..... there's always room service. Me, I always enjoyed just ordering a nice appetizer, meal... a couple drinks and I didn't care that I was alone. I'd been with people all day and alone time was good.

I'd order a second beer at the bar and sit it next to you as if someone is coming back. It could be played off as you are there for some serious drinking.

Doing it at a table is creeper status. fact.

I just talk to my imaginary friend(s), Bill, Bob, and ****. I am bold enough to let the intruder know they are interrupting our conversation.

Same thing here when I travel the mid-Atlantic. I guess I'm don't appear as personal as you. I just sit, check the forums on Tap-a-Talk and watch whatever is on TV. Hopefully we don't run into each other...that would be awkward.

It's easy...take a book with you. Not something on the NY Times best seller list or your dinner could turn into a book club. Take something like Dante's Inferno.

Bark at them like a wild dog and foam at the mouth. Or tell them you're on the run from the law and tell them they never saw you here.

Monosyllabic answers and never take your eyes off of the TV. Trust me, it will work and isn't rude. The rudeness belongs to the person invading your space.

#1) I agree with whoever said, "get carry-out"...

#2) Try being nice to people, that are nice to you for no apparent reason. How people treat you is their karma. How you react is yours...

.......but what do I know, I'm just a redneck hippy :woot:

Cover a scent pad in fox pee and wear it on your shoe while sitting there. Most of the other folks will just quietly move away and leave you alone.
Of course it DOES take some getting used to from the user as well.

This post is disturbing in a really sad way. Its no wonder that todays "new generation" have poor interpersonal communication skills. All they want to do is be self-absorbed in their own world of entertainment and technology. The art of conversation is on a slippery slope. Just curious, are you the only person at that bar that isnt a loser? Or, just the ones that want to share a personality? Maybe your bar stool sits a bit higher than everyone elses and it attracts attention.

I've only had to travel occasionally for business, and it's been a mixed bag whether I converse with others at the bar or not. Sometimes I end up sitting next to people who look like they want left alone. Other times I've sat next to people and had great pleasant conversations. One place I went to I got a table, because the bar crowd didn't look too appealing. I ended up chatting it up with the super cute waitress for quite some time as she only had a couple tables. It's all about what you make of it.
