I went hunting with some guys years ago that shot arrows straight up the air.. I crawled under my Bronco and hid.. Those dumbasses scared the crap out of me.. I never hunted with them idiots again.. To answer your question.. Decocking into the ground with a fieldpoint is fine..
Rinehart makes a target called the RFT. It has a nine inch diameter and us only 35 dollars. Check it out it is rated for expandable a field points and fixed blade broadheads . It is very small and light and would be perfect.
I also have a glendel buck target and shoot it with a fieldtip when i get back to the house,as for runnin outta day light , i just hold my mini mag light with foregrip and shoot. May come in handy some night.
I have one of these RFTs, they are real nice for field practice or decocking a crossbow. Definitely worth more than $35 if you ask me.
The preferred method is pulling the bolt from the carcass of your favorite meal, but we all have those days (many many days for me). I carry my yellow jacket target bag in the vehicle and fire into it with a field pointed bolt I keep in the quiver for that very purpose. Broadheads come in 3's and a quiver holds 4 so to me it seems like the right way of doing it.
Shoot the ground. I told my wife not to shoot my tree. Now I have a nice pack hanger! Oh, the gentleman before me is right on a bout the field point and sacrificial bolt! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
