    1. Good genes.............8
    2. plenty of deer.............5
    3. low pressure (bow season).............3
    4. deer actually walk in the day light............5

Small acerages and lot's of hunters make it difficult at home.

Public land down at the camp....

    1. Good genes.............7
    2. plenty of deer.............8
    3. low pressure (bow season).............6
    4. deer actually walk in the day light............6
    5. easy to hunt and access.............4

There are a lot of hunters but the huge acreage waters the pressure down.

    1. Good genes-9..178" killed few years ago and I killed a really nice 12 last year.

    2. plenty of deer-9...lots of deer, but not too many.

    3. low pressure (bow season)-10...I am the only one who bowhunts both of the farms I hunt

    4. deer actually walk in the day light-9...lots of pictures of deer(does and bucks) on clover fields at anytime during day. While on stand, I always see them during daylight hours.

    5. easy to hunt and access-9 on one farm and I'd say 7 on the other. On one farm I can access the farm from every direction except the southeast. Other farm I can only get to it from the east.

Overall= 3, the access issue weighs heavily on the overall ranking around where I live... there are big deer around here and they are moving freely in the late morning and early afternoons... but its rare to find a place to hunt 'em... only a couple I know cand hunt private land 'round here and there are only 2-3 small and limited access public lands close by...

    1. Good genes - 9
    2. plenty of deer - 6
    3. low pressure (bow season) - 3
    4. deer actually walk in the day light - 6
    5. easy to hunt and access - 2 (have to pull weeds/other stuff that's not exactly fun for 40 hours, pass a 'proficiency test', lottery for spots at 4:30am and site rules that are much more restrictive than regular. Then it's all woods and crp, no crops... and it's 120 miles round trip. But.. otherwise it's a cake walk.) ;)

    Public land by my house:
    1. Good genes - 8
    2. plenty of deer - 2
    3. low pressure (bow season) - 2 (opening day and weekends it's more like -5)

I broke up " easy to hunt " and " access " cause they are two different beasts.

A big question also would be How well the area is Managed, if that was a question Md would get a -8 from me this place sucks!!

My average is basically 4.8 so this is not the best place to hunt IMO!!

Good Genes-- I'd give it a 9 because there's been several booners killed the past couple years

Plenty of deer-- I'll say an 8

Low pressure-- 9, none of our neighbors bow hunt, they all shotgun hunt

Deer actually walk in daylight-- 9, I've seen many good bucks out during the day, as well as at night

Easy to hunt and access-- No hunting is easy, but our property is only a half mile down the road, and very easy and convenient for us to access, I'd say 9

    average of 8.8

On a scale from 1-10 ...10 being the best...qualities to consider:

    1. Good genes -------------- 8
    2. plenty of deer -------------- 1
    3. low pressure (bow season) ------------ 5 Very little bow pressure. Tons of other presure including bear hunters and bird hunters and their dogs. And wolves.
    4. deer actually walk in the day light- 3
    5. easy to hunt and access ---- 4 Not that tough to access but big woods hunting is tough.

    average: 4.2
I will be hunting a whole new area this bow season. I know there's more deer and some big ones. From the sign there shouldn't be tons of pressure. Most of the spots will be tough access. (over a mile in or access by water)

A little improvement in the genetics wouldn't hurt though! You do have a honey hole as far as freezer filling goes! I have a feeling you just might get that lone "bruiser" that you know must be around somewhere. Good luck to you!

    1. Good genes, but bad age structure (majority of bucks are 1.5 and with few 2.5+)
    2. too many does
    3. fairly low pressure (bow season)
    4. while the bowhunting pressure is not high, there is still a lot of human intrusion (farmers, woodcutters, horseback riders)
    5. most of the area is ag fields and access to the better/larger woodlots is tough
