The day before in school not focusing on absolutely anything, then coming home and throwing all my gear in the truck. And heading to the fish house deer stand to spend the night, waking up at 4 am to walk the 300 yards to my food plot set up. Climbing up, strapping into my harness, hoisting up my bow, then sleeping again til the eastern sunrise wakes me up. I'll put on my sunglasses. Then start thanking God to have the privilege to hunt again through another great bow season!
Im just praying its not above 75degrees when i wake up at 330am to start getting ready to head to the stand....ahhh the joys of early season in FL! I have definitely day dreamed about opening morning as i have 2 shooters who have been pretty regular about hitting a particular of a farmers field. And as of last night, a new shooter has made himself known at what may be my opening afternoon set up. time and wind will tell....until then practice practice practice!
I'll roll out of my sleeping bag a few hours before daylight get my gear on and head to my spot. I'll be set up on top of a "ski run" that I have seen so many big bulls run up years prior. Hopefully as soon as the other guys come in from down low they will run them right to me. I've seen this same exact thing happen year after year. This will be our first year on top waiting on them. I expect to be taking pics with my 6x6 bull 2 hours after daylight on opening morning. Now lets just hope the Elk cooperate
My first bowhunt at home this year will be sometime in early October. I will take the young son of a very good friend in hopes of him shooting a deer or two. I will take a bow with no intentions of using it. If he is successful, I will be more excited than if I shot a 170s 10pt for myself. I never thought I would get to this point, but it has become far more enjoyable to help bring success to others than it is to hunt for me.
This has got me all fired up! This will be my first year not hunting at home in Tennessee so I'm still not sure what to expect, lots of deer around here though! Can't wait just three more weeks.
Plan on hitting an observation stand first and doing just that , observing . It's always great to finally get back out there for the first few hours and watching nature while enjoying the peace and solitude . I'm sure I will see a few deer but I be happy either way . Can't wait !!
waking up at 3:45 and driving 2 hours to my spot to just make it before the sun comes out. Hopefully getting into stand before shooting light and having the pleasure of watching the woods wake up. Hopefully ill just see a deer.
sore legs, sore muscles, big grins. no matter how hard the hunt, being in the woods always brings a smile.
Wake up early thinking of getting in the stand and why I deserve to be deer hunting and can get in the combine after I climb out of the stand...crop is too wet anyway this early... Get in the stand, deer chasing everywhere...single old doe walks in and stops broadside at 20...see her go down within 50. Sit there thinking how dealing with a doe is going to impact my partial day of harvest because it's going to be 85F this afternoon. Have to get her hanging, skinned and deboned before even looking at the beans. Probably take me at least 30 minutes to drag her out and get her off site to field dress...holy crap...it's the old gnarly 12 point I caught a glimse of in the background on camera #12 back in late August...he's following the doe's trail I just laid down...I can't believe he's actually stopping in the same spot! .... Son of a **ich... Wow, both are nice, crap....hope the lights work on the combine.... ****** it...I forgot my skinning knife.
I'll watch the sun rise over the Wyoming prairie and immediately begin spotting for antelope and watching their watering habits while trying for a stalk possibly.
My first hunt of the year will begin with me opening the truck door and feeling a wave of humidity in the 85 degree or so heat. I will walk about halfway to my stand and realize I forgot my thermacell, the hell with that though it's too hot to walk back to get it without sweating profusely. Then I will slowly climb the tree in my climbing stand, going as slow as I can tolerate to avoid sweating even more. 30 minutes later I'll regret not going back for the thermacell. As miserable as I'll most likely be, I will stay in the stand until dark for the off chance that I'll be the first of my friends to get a deer this year. Bowseason here can start fairly miserable, but I love it and will never miss it by choice.
Be up in the stand and shooting the first big doe or hopefully buck I see, which I highly doubt. So I can go to the Tennessee vs Georgia game with my buddies!
Fitz already said it. No matter how many times check and double check I always forget something that first trip. I just get so excited and go to fast.
The alarm goes off at 4 a.m. my wife laying next to me as she turns off the alarm I fall back to sleep only to wake back up at 8 a. m. to miss my first hunt. but well rested for the afternoon hunt.
I'll be hunting the afternoon in a bonus tag county. I'll be fighting sweat, ticks, and mosquitoes, but hopefully I can find an old lone doe feeding in one of the food plots. I always love that first hunt regardless of the conditions.
Hour and 20 minute drive to property, get into my stand hour before sunrise, shoot the 130 or better ive been dreaming about, track him, field dress him, load him onto my deer carrier. Go home, sleep with a huge smile on my face for my first ever nice buck. The ones Ive shot so far are a small 3 pointer and a spike. I`m ready.
