I'm looking for advice on vanes. Gold Tip has some that are only 1.75" long. Is that an advantage or disadvantage ?

Disadvantage - The less steering in the back, the less forgiveness on a less than perfect shot.

There is a lot to learn with bows, thats for damn sure.

So how do you choose what's right ? Would the 3" Superspines work well ?

If the bow and arrow are tuned most any fletch will work well. Find a vane or feather (my preference) that fits the idea of what you want on your arrow, tune things up and have at it. If you want to add more forgiveness, add more surface area, ie a bigger fletch. Blazers are shorter but taller so they make up their surface area with height. Other fletches have a lower profile and make up their surface area with length. A higher profile fletch, like a blazer, can have some contact issues with your rest/cables so that is something to be aware of. There are many fletch choices and none are reallly bad.

My Gold Tip Velocity 400's came today. Can't wait to get them set up. I was shooting full length Beman 500's. I'm going to install my Rip Cord rest and tune the bow, when I get my arrows ready.
