Last night I got out of work late and got out to the land I hunt on around 6pm, and literally ran to my stand. Got situated by 6:10. My back is to an alfalfa field, which I see no deer in when I went up. So I'm there about 10 minutes, and I hear something similar to leaves rustling on the ground. I turn around slowly, and there she is, 25 yds out. Looking right at me, ears pointed in my direction and stomping the ground. DOG GONE IT, there were no deer in that field 10 minutes ago. To top it off, by bow is on the right side of a limb, from where the shooting lane she's standing in is on the left side. So I'm frozen, trying like heck to convince her, that I am really a part of this tree and to just relax, and eat something. So she stomps couple more times, nose in the air. She's looking kinda jittery, and looking around. She starts to walk to my right, but freezes again. Then all of the sudden, gives on snort and off she trots across the field. About 1 minute goes by, and I hear a very faint pig grunt. Out comes a fork, right on her trail. He stops right were she was and looks at me. Now mind you, I haven't moved once. So then he's looking around nose in the air, then just as quick he bounds off after her. Then I just sit there watching him chase her all around for about 5 min. about 200 yds out. So ends my plight. On the way home, I come across a huge 10ptr, w/split g3, and about 20" spread. Just running parralel w/me in the ditch line. Unbelievable night. Great to be out and seeing something finally. Me & the boy gonna go out & sit in the rain 2-nite. I think that the rut is just around the corner.
I don't, I convince them that I'm another doe. disclaimer: There wasn't another human within 10 miles of here and the ones that were over there (Tembry) were bowhunters. I'd never do this in the lower 48!!!
On Tuesday I had a doe and button buck around me most of the night. I did good sitting still and not getting picked off. I had a shot at the doe, but decided not to try and shoot. Well now it's time to get down and they have not left yet. I wait 15 mins and I can just barley see her about 25 yds away, 15 more mins go by and she starts to walk away. I get up gather me stuff. I am about to let the bow down when I hear some stomping, it's that damn doe again. She turned around, I hear something to my right. A deer bust out and takes off as she stomps and then blows. I lower my bow down and the other deer walks by, LOL Deer are nutting:p Last night I watch them run from one end of the hay field to the other. They did not know where to go. It was odd.
"how do you convince a doe, that you're really are a tree?" Bark? ...sorry... Sounds like a good evening and that they're moving again. I gotta get back out there.
I wouldnt chance getting to the stand that late myself. Any movements in stand should be done in slow motion. I try never to do more than a head turn. Good camo really helps. You will get a ton of opinions on that but Ultimate Camo has really been good for me in the hardwoods I hunt out of.
i just get a tad higher..and i can move my head and hands a little bit more..but im always on the look out..hopfullly i see the deer before they spot me....from a distance..
