Ok so your at the bowshop, or shooting a 3D with a few "acquaintants"(sp) and they bring up a subject that has been hot on the forums, not exactly directed to you... For example, "yeh, I hit him in the void" another, "I can shoot one pin dead on to 40 yards." Now do you pounce like a crouching tiger on a rabbit, like you would on the boards or do you just let it role and try not to stir a pot in person... It sounds so familiar to you, but they haven't spent hours reading and researching to find the right answers as we have, and you never know if they are going to accept or take offense... like, "what makes you think you know so much about it?" I'll have to admit, I kind of feel like I have an edge, when talking to normal deer hunters who hold on to their wives tales and myths... do you guys? How do you approach? How do you share your information/thoughts without becoming a "know it all" Remember these are not just your everyday ribbing buddies your talking to.
same..however im no expert..and i admit it...but i can talk and ask questions to about 3 or 4 of my friends...and one is my father...im still learning...im very interested in the sport..and i learn something new everyday....i like hearing other peoples input....unless they are just retarded and dont make sense...you know when you find someone like that...you try to hide so they dont see you ..haha ...and quite escape your way to freedom..
For me its hard to leave when I'm not there to begin with! :D:D I avoid those places like the plague!
I dont talk hunting with locals, I dont hang out at proshops or do the social shoots that are in the area. I pretty much keep everything to myself outside of our web/internet hunting sites.
I laugh and then bring up the topics of mech vs. fixed, fast vs. heavy, or the battle of the bows.... :D I'm somewhat of an antagonist :D
I don't really care. I am amazed at some of the things I hear. The only people I really talk hunting with are you guys.
most people dont think i know jack at all anyway. and what little i do know i keep close to the vest until confronted or called out... i usually dont do too much talking just mind my own business, observe and sometimes chuckle. sooner or later they make their way over and ask, but only after i've wore out the middle of the target! ha just kiddin' yall
Aaron~~~ I know EXACTLY the people you are talking about!! The best thing you can do is bite your tongue because in most cases there is always some other idiot that agrees with most wrong things and it turns into more of a pissing match then anything?!? Ill say it, I definantely have an edge over "most" of the non forum guys I talk too. There are a select few that do get it!! Example: The one thing I have learned alot about this year on here is about KE and proper spined arrows. I wanted to make sure I had enough knowledge to try out a mechanical this year, and I believe I definantely do. However it seems everyday I hear of people shooting whatever they want becuase "It dont take that much to punch through a deer"...blah blah blah..!! They want bigger cuts, better bloodtrails, etc... and dont care if the arrow passes through becuase once the arrow is in there it is doing the damage and its all over from there anyway, which may be true but I wouldnt want to take that chance if I can help it?? Another case is a guy is telling me "You need to get Scent-Lok if you want to kill big bucks"........HAHAHAHA I deal with this almost everyday and since we are good buddies I cant help but to just laugh it off!! I point out all the things he can do better and it doesnt much matter becuase he has scentlok...blah blah haha!! I could go on about this all day!! Also in some cases on these forums there are plenty of things that are preached that I myself disagree with but will I will bite my tongue and not say anything because people on the forums can gang up like a pack of wolves as well!! In most of these cases its like beating a dead horse!
It depends on if I think the person will take me seriously or is actually willing to learn. If they don't seem like hard-headed dolts, I'll try to nicely educate them. (void, quartering shots, arrow placement, tuning...) If they are hard-headed or my niceness doesn't work. I beat them with my Kung Fu. Or I simply ignore them. I don't want to sprain a pinky or something.
The few time that I venture into my local shop, I hear the most ridiculous stuff from some guys. I usually just listen and don't say much, but sometimes I honestly can't believe what I am hearing. I just keep to myself and laugh about it later.
Ok, give one line of some bs you have heard recently(in the last year) while out at a bowshop/sporting goods store. Gander Mountain sales rep says, "these G5's are sharp, I shot 5 deer with the same head last year.....and in the same conversation he says,"hey any broadhead can kill a deer, even a field point..trust me, I know".
I smack 'em, sack punch 'em, then take my beer back from them...haven't been to a bowshop in years, so it would have to be one of my buddies making the comment...and our group doesn't hold back when it comes to opinions.
Considering you are on here 100 times more than you are in a hunting shop, that makes complete statistical sense.
If they ask me a direct question, I answer it. Other than that, I ignore them. My grandfather once told me, "If you argue with an idiot, bystanders won't be able to tell the difference between the two of you." I miss him.
i just nod and agree for the most part... you aren't gonna change most idiots minds unless they are actually wanting to learn...
