Got out today for the first time - confirmed I am getting rid of my Amacker climb and carry stand, its too big and dragging it as a game cart will not work in the woods of Quantico...

Did more scouting then anything today lots of tracks and I had a great time just being out. Saw some folks with deer at the game check station...alas none for me.

Anyway, I want to get a Lone Wolf Assault with climbing sticks. So my stand goes on my back for my walk in, sticks on the stand.

That leaves bow in my left hand. But no space for a back pack.

What do the rest of you all do with the rest of the crap you carry in? I've got a knife, some maps, a Garmin GPS, a Silva compass, extra batts for the Garmin, bottle of wind checker, some Tinks and Tink Bombs, a Butt Out 2 and gloves - plus will have a bow hanger etc. All fits in a back pack I had from my last deployment now...but not if I have a stand on my back.

    Suggestions?

Bungee the pack to the stand...or start using a fanny pack that will ride below the stand on your back.

A couple years ago I trimmed the amount of crap I take in way down. It was getting out of control. I use a fanny pack with just the basics now, and like it.

My bro-in-law carries his backpack in one hand, and bow in the other....stand on his back.

I use a Badlands Monster fanny pack. I can put a stand on top of it, and it carries everything I could need for a full day in the woods. The best thing about it is that I can put my stand on my back over the pack. I hate taking a pack off and attaching to the stand, it puts the weight too far away from my body. It seems the further away it is from your body, the more it feels like it weighs.

There is a pretty good review of this pack on this site on the following link:

You can also buy the pack from this site as well on the following link:

I just went with the Cabelas All Day Transporter since money was a issue, I had hunted in Ripley 2 full days of rain and I was completely soaked everything in this pack was completely dry. It's a huge Fanny pack that won't break the bank. So far 5 stars at half the price of others.

If I don't have too far to go, I'll throw the back pack on backwards. I'll look like a huge camo pregnant lady, but it gets the job done!

Getting any snow up there? I'm counting down the days! Looks like it's getting cold enough to hold some snow!

That is so funny..because tonight when i was walking in the woods i was thinking to myself..why do i do this?...i carry everything possible into the stand...i dont need it but..i feel just in case...i use a fanny pack around ...with my binocs, rangefinder, screw in's, scents, gloves, wind checker..haha..calll..everthing...then i got my climber on my back and bow in hand..its sucks to much..

gotta figure a new method out sometime soon..workin up a sweat getting back to the stand...killing my scent..all well i figure something out.

Be really careful and set up your tree stand the night before the hunt. But if on state lands, I'd be cautious of doing so. I do set up my stand a few days before if I am using a stand even on state land, and I make sure I take the bottom set of climbers so no one can get up in my stand. OR you could try sitting on the ground. Just food for thought?

I use a fanny pack and turn it around so it's in the front. I carry my straps in it for the Lone Wolf stand and sticks amung many other items. With the straps in the pack I don't have to fumble with them while hanging, there are right there in a pocket of the pack. Once up the tree the pack comes off and is hung on a hook

Depends on where you get your ticket to hunt on Quantico, but there are only some areas where you can leave a stand. I will mostly be putting up my stand when I find out where I can hunt (didn't get the area I wanted yesterday for example - they limit areas to a certain number by training area)

i wear a fanny pack that i keep my treestand essentials(binos, rangefinder, bow rope, hooks, food, etc..). I then have a backpack that i keep scents, tree umbrella, field dressing equipment, extra clothing, etc.. I wear my treestand over both and fits perfectly. Once in the tree I strap the fanny to the side of my treestand and my backpap on a hook around the backside of the tree.

I found that I'm really going to need to get a better packing system for next season. The two packs posted by Dan and RJ are the two I'm eying up. I want something that's light and fairly compact (since I don't carry a TON of things, just the essentials that I don't want in my pockets anymore).
