I had a mineral lick going a few months ago that really worked good to get abut everything i the woods i front of my camera. I was using a mixture put out by Rough Ridge. Im telling you I got pics of Deer, bears, bobcats, and coons. I cant get the mineral anywhere locally. I got it at a show the first time. I put something called Trophy rock in its place and nothing has touched it.
So what minerals do you guys use and what do you have the most luck with.

Right now I set up my cam in a different spot. I wanted to see what predators I would get. I had a 5 gallon bucket of scrap meat from the last deer I killed . I buried it in front of the camera. I don't know if it will work but I buried some meat behind my house and had a red fox hitting it every evening. He is at the taxidermist.

We use trophy rocks in the summer with great success. Now we use corn or something green.

From my experience, corn is king this time of year. Orscheln has corn with an apple flavoring that the deer seem to like.

Minerals are desired year round but not pounded or as needed year round. Does and Bucks both really need to boost their overall health and mineral supplementation more so in the Spring. Bucks in anticipation of antler growth, does due to upcoming nursing needs; and both respectively for simply a healthier all around skeletal and physical body.

That said, you have to ask yourself are you simply trying to "bait" or "attract" deer? Or are you trying to supplement their health by giving them a great "vitamin" type supplement?

As for baiting or simply attracting deer through "mineral" (using that loosely as some are not minerals outside of salt) many companies out there can get this done. Salt is the key and is abused by nearly every major "mineral" supplement out there because not too many have figured out how to put a mixture together that is HIGH in all the other minerals and not basically a salt lick. Deer love salt, they will come to salt...but what health benefits does that provide?

I use Monsterraxx in all our mineral sites. Many companies claim to not be a salt ridden mixture and fall short...outside of Monsterraxx I have only seen one company (not saying there isn't others) that actually have an ingredient listing that I would feel benefits the deer at the site's overall health.

All that said, this time of year and really any other time if you are simply trying to get deer to come, corn or apples rule. Just make sure it's legal when and where you are doing it. Some states don't even allow minerals at certain times (I live in one of them).

I defiatly want to supplement the deer health. To me thats the point. I wonder if I can get Monsterraxx locally. I have found its to expensive to shipped minnerals.

In my state you can feed deer after hunting season. You have to have any feed up by september. I think mineral licks are not considered bait but I will have to check to be sure.

    Thanks

Personally, I use Primos Red Spot. It is a great attractant and showed me numbers of deer i'd never seen before. Walmart carries it, and their deer hunting gear is on closeout so you can catch it at like $8 a bag for 4.5lbs. Tractor Supply(If you have one) carries a lot of minerals and also carries Red Spot. I have heard numerous cases of success with Monster Raxx though.

It's tougher in Illinois with baiting being illegal. Food plots, natural food sources and water sources work well, but they are not year round spots. I have found using more cameras and putting them right off major trails with easy access to those trails work about the best for me.

I threw out some deer cane in a new spot on a new property in December. I really didn't think much would have hit it, but I checked a few weeks later and the lick had been slammed and the deer had put a hole in the ground where it was spread.
