Today they said Greece has now match Spain in unemployment. 25.1% overall and the youth unemployment is at 50%:(
    http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/1...percent-in-july-542-percent-for-young-people/

Can you imagine one out of every four people do nothing all day but collect government checks taken form those who are? These aren't little third world country's either. Spain was a world power for over 500 years. They did not get this way overnight.

Without getting into a pissing match but how do we get the people in our country who would rather live on food stamps and welfare checks to get out and produce something,be it a service or product?
This is the road America is heading if we don't stop making it so easy for people to do nothing and trying to find excuses for them. And I will say I have a brother and his son doing just that now. These very able bodied men would rather live off their girlfriends and surf all day then be a provider.

Without getting into politics though, we all no people who are just lazy and don't mind leeching off society. What can we do?

I say have no "free rides". If ur collecting u should be made to do something!! Any kind of service maybe even save the really bad ones for those that are collecting (as kind of an incentive to not be). Its horrible but I've known people that have turned down pretty well paying jobs because they make more doing absolutely nothing at all except taking a "free ride". Nothing is free, someone pays!!!

I think it's also the silver lining to a bad economics. I know myself I've cut back on a lot of stuff I used to waste money on. But will it motivate people to get a job?

And then they would riot, do we shoot them then? Not against it, but they would riot.

AMEN Brother!!! Cut off the supply of entitlements, and make people go out and EARN their "daily bread!!!"

This is what scares me about the "socialized" healthcare plan!!! WE already have a system of "Socialized Healthcare" called Medicaid, and it is so severely abused, that it's a big DRAIN on our hospitals nationwide. People who don't have to be responsible to pay a bill abusing the system to get drugs, free meals, and even a night in a hospital when it's cold out rather than sleeping in the streets. (Sort of like going to a buffet, you can try everything, waste anything you want or as much as you want, because it's already paid for, and you're not gonna get charged extra for that 4th steak if you only eat one bite. Or that piece of apple pie, or the chocolate cake, or whatever....) All you have to do is say "My chest hurts," and be a smoker, and you can have a "free" night in the hospital oftentimes!!!

But in actuality, we as the United States of America should probably send Spain some money to retrain their people to make them more employable, then Spain will be ourfriend......

If we could just focus on solving our OWN problems, this country would be in a better place....

Maybe a ten year plan where they all know by 2023 all welfare will be cut off?

I've also felt that a nation wide hotline ( 1-800-USA-JOBS ) where anybody can pick up any phone and call to find work and info in their area and free transportation info as well. So no more excuses and these places are also where you go to pick up your Government check.
    Get private enterprises involved.

Work/Education fare. The system needs to be changed. I would say that if you are receiving full time welfare, you should have to work 50% of the time, and be trained in a trade for the other 50% of 40 hours a week. Think of all the jobs a system like this would create. You would have to have supervisors for the working hours, trainers, and of coarse you would need people to provide child care while they are out working/training. Give them 6 months or a year of this, then have a system to help place them in a real work environment. If, given all the training provided, they still choose not to contribute to society, then cut them off completely. They will change their tune pretty quick if they are starving.

As for them rioting, so what. It will be short lived, and maybe we could eliminate a few that are leaching off the system :)

Agreed and I'll add rather than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet throwing $60 billion dollars away on Africa, head that up program up themselves and keep that money in the country you got it from.

I so agree.. We can motivate them by STOP GIVING THEM A REASON NOT TO WORK !!! Cant work? Well, we will give you a check, let you get food for free, we will build you a house and let you move in for free.. Nothing angers me more than driving thru the lower income housing projects serving a search warrant for narcotics and seeing a 2011 Lexus with a chamelion paint job out front with 28 inch spinner rims, a monster 85 inch flat screen TV on the wall with satellite dish on the roof with 1,952 channels available, a check from the local church on the counter giving them money for food and bills.................. and we are there collecting illegal narcotics..

    I just dont get it....

Obama has promised us all a free lunch. We can get to 25 percent unemployment if he's reelected.

I experience this segment of our population every single day at work. I am a construction project manager for a decent sized public housing agency. Imagine spending thousands of dollars renovating a house or apartment for someone and then within a month the place is completely disgusting. Oh yeah, keep in mind that the residents either don't pay rent or pay a highly subsidized rent.

I agree with making them earn it somehow. The truly sad thing is that there are programs in place that make good paying jobs available to these people, but they just don't want to work.

So how do you get them to realize they are missing the big picture? Going through life living on our scraps and thinking its a good thing. Where is the shame of living on handouts?

For me I woud not feel like much of a man if I was not bringing home the bacon and having that sense of accomplishment. It really can't be an easy life and if they say it is I think their just kidding themselves.

I think sometimes its more about politicians feeling better about themselves and winning votes than really helping the individuals out.

We need to not give them fish for a day but a fishing pole. IMO

This s*** drives me nuts case in point my sister who is 33 now got layed off in the end of 09. She was a receptionists at a dental office. She collected $400 a week for 2 1/2 years. Are you kidding me. She wasn't looking for a job and didn't even make an effort to do so. That is a joke I understand she's my sister but that long collecting 400$ a week. Where's the motivation to find a job. NONE!!! She milked it as long as she could and now lives with my mom and does nothing and claims there's nothing out there. Sorry for the rant just had to vent. I know it's bad out there it's just when you see it up close it stings much more!!!!

    My experience with "the system":

I left my daughter's "sperm donor" when she was very little. Once she was born, he decided being a parent, was taking too much from his personal life. I was a single parent anyway...so I left. He told me that if I left, I would be on my own. He has made it a point to do just that.

I have worked since I was 14 years old. I have always had a good work ethic and people that live off the system when they don't physically have to, has always bothered me. It got really tough for me and I was barely making it. Daycare alone was $750/month and then there was rent, food, bills, and also healthcare. I needed help. I applied for daycare assistance...nope, made too much money. I applied for housing assistance...nope, made too much money. I applied for food assistance...nope, made too much money. I had cut out everything that wasn't absolutely necessary and I was still struggling. I was frustrated and went in to the government center to see what my options were. I was in total shock! They basically told me that if I wanted any government assistance of any kind...I would have to not be working. I couldn't believe it. They would rather pay for EVERYTHING, rather than to help out a little. I was disgusted.

My resolution to the problem, had to get a 2nd job, be away from my daughter more and pay a babysitter. But, that was more rewarding to me than sitting at home with my hand out. Everything worked out in the longrun and I ended up with a higher paying job and then eventually met a wonderful man to share responsibilities with so things are great now. But, I still feel better about myself for not taking the easy way out.

The problem with our government...they don't offer "assistance" they offer "support". I also think, in order to get a paycheck, you should be subjected to drug testing. If you can afford your weed or whatever else...you shouldn't be collecting a check.

I totally disagree with your statment above it's there money they can do with it as they please. If I win the lottery tomorrow and blow all my money on hookers and blow thats my personal choice. If I'm ever lucky enough to win the lottery I won't blow it on the prior things stated. Now when it comes to the government giving handout I'm totally against them.

Just as these problems were not created over night, neither will they be solved short term.
A simple solution is the best, and the simplest is to print on each beneficiaries check the amount that their next check will be reduced by, say $20.00 per month, and each following month keep reducing that amount until they eventually receive nothing.
That will give them time to adjust their life style and ambition to fit their financial needs.
As hunger is a great provider when it come to getting a job.
