Iran-Israel would be a nuclear, and that I believe has the highest odds of happening of all conflicts with potential nuclear or advanced military.

If you're on/have been on a terrorist watch list I feel you should not be able to purchase guns. Period.

So all a person needs to do is make some false accusations about you to keep you from ever getting a gun?

If you're on the FBIs terrorist watch list there is most certainly more evidence than someone making false accusations against you.

I have a friend who has the same name as a guy who is on the no fly list, it is a pain for him to fly pretty much every tim.

I think you are underestimating how easily many people have been put on the watch-lists. But you are basically OK with taking away a citizens rights with no proof of any wrong doing. The more we do that, the more the terrorists win.

How easy is it to be put on the list? What needs to be done to be put on the list? I have no idea.

Again - In my opinion if you are on/have been on a watch list of the FBI for TERRORISM you should not be able to legally buy a gun. If anything there needs to be different procedures put in place during the background check for those people who are/have been on that list.

Let me ask you this, if a person is being investigated and can't buy a gun, should we also allow for confiscation of any guns they already own?

I agree that a person actively being investigated should probably be prevented from passing the background check. Where I part ways is after they are investigated and nothing found to support being suspected. At that point we would be taking away their rights for no legal reason.

In order to lessen the likelihood of missing terrorists, we need to have the grounds to warrant investigation being pretty relaxed. Better to investigate innocent people than miss "guilty". But along with that we need to remember we are dealing with American Citizens and without proof, we should not be taking away their rights. Once a person is investigated and found "innocent" it would be un-American to take their rights.

I understand what you are saying in regards to taking their rights... But we also need to find ways so this does not happen again.

I'm curious - How do you feel the situation should be handled? How can we eliminate this from happening in the future? How do we prevent terrorists (on/have been on the watch list) from getting guns legally?

Unless they have committed some type of felony, we don't.

Stripping people of their rights by association or for their thoughts is a horrible precedent to set.

Except that is exactly what happened to this guy. How can one differentiate someone being cleared and then this happening or someone being cleared and never hearing from that person again the rest of their life?

    I agree.

Something needs to be done... But there is nothing we can do to stop what is happening. I think it will continue to be part of the world we live in for the remainder of our lives.

I don't have the answer, I think it comes down to learning how to better identify the risks. I am sure the FBI or other organization is going to go back over the investigations on this turd to try and find anything that might have been missed.

We just can't go throwing away our rights because of the acts of terrorists, if we do, we are letting them win.

    Are you ****ing kidding me...

NBC: Orlando shooter's wife tried to talk husband out of attack. Went with him to buy weapons. Authorities might charge for not reporting.

    MIGHT CHARGE?!

I'm sick of Officials Close, but without authority to talk. TALKING. If you are not authorized shut your pie hole and let those who are do the talking.

This x a million. The second we start stripping people of rights with no due process we lose. There are no easy answers here and realistically if a terrorist or anyone wants a gun it's not too likely that their name being on a list that prevents them from "legally" purchasing one is too big of a hurdle.

Think about it, if you needed a gun could you get one within a short period of time using any means necessary?
