Here turkey turkey turkey. Heres a hint. They like walking old dirt roads and walking in fields. Look for dust bowls and thats a common area where they hangout. If you find a tree they like to roost in there should be crap all over the ground near it.

Go out just before sunset and watch for areas where they are roosting. Look for large oaks or whatever the tallest and biggest trees in your area are. A sign of a good roosting tree is tons of turkey crap on the ground beneath the tree. Right after sunset, if you can do a hoot owl call, do so and they normally gobble back. Train whistles and crow calls can also cause gobbling.

I know this thread is older but when I first started, I walked around and called for hours. Nothing major, just a few yelps and I would wait for a little bit then walk another 50-100 yards and call. I've taken my limit every year except last year because my daughter was born the week before opening day.
The year before last, I shot my 2nd long beard using the method above. I didn't shoot him that evening though, I just watched him fly into the tree near me to roost because it was getting dark. After dark, I walked out and returned in the morning. Soon as it was day light, I watched him fly down.
