I am a teenager and bowhunting is my life. I live about 5hrs and 30mins from Garden Prairie and have a feeling my parents wont be too happy when I tell them where I want to go. My dad hunts but he hasn't bowhunted in many years. I'll see what I can do because this would be an awesome experience! Any ideas?

Get your old man to come with you. My brother in law is going and is not a hunter. Just a great trip to hangout with some great people. He will still have a great time!

Tell your dad to go with you and that you will help pay for the trip or do stuff to help around the house to help pay for it.

What are the fees to get into the GTG? Is there lunch served? Do you have to pay for each individual competition?

I just told my old man I was trading trucks with him and I will be back in 3 days  I live 12 hours away from Garden Prarie, and me and my buddy just road tripped it up to Wisconsin for a night, then back to the GTG.

Good to see I'm not the only one making a 12 hr drive. I made the trip 2 years ago but couldn't get away from work last year. This year I should be back.

Good deal. I should be making it again this year, as long as nothing major comes up. The joys of working construction for your buddies dad, I can take off whenever :D

I know what I would tell my 16 year old if he wanted to drive over 5 hours and spend a weekend with people he met on the internet. No chance. I MIGHT let my 18 year old.

I will never forget my first GTG, I live 20 minutes away and my wife thought I was nuts for going out to meet a bunch of guys I met in the "Internet".

I remember it like it was yesterday, "You are gonna hang out with guys names Buckeye, Dubbya and Duke Michaels"??????

She got to meet Dubbya last night, it was nice she finally realized the guys on here are normal dudes. We chatted for a short time and reflected on a few GTG events and how they all turned out to be good people.

Now this would be perfect to get your dad back into bowhunting. Time to spend with your dad is a plus. He'd probably be shocked bout you asking him to go. There's gonna be another father/son team showing up this yr. It was there first time attending last yr, and they said they were a bit nervous. but after the gtg they said they'd be back for this yr's gtg. It's the only way you'll be able to make it. If my kid asked what your asking, that answer would be no. Show him the site, & the details.

As for prices, it's a fee that covers the shoot & lunch. I think last yr was $20? The camping is on yer own dime, check out Ferg's post on the campsites.
Hope you & your dad can make it out.

Watch this video and then have your dad watch this video. There is a small clip with yours truly "The DAWG" in it! HE HE HE. It is a great time and hope you and YOUR DAD can make it. We camp out and cook up some food the night before and then shoot the next day. You can leave out or you can stay Saturday night too and then leave out on Sunday like most of us did last year. Just so you know I SNORE! Watch this clip!
