I have a coon living under my house. How do I catch him?

I would use a trap, but I'm pretty sure I would just catch either our cat, or one of the 100 neighborhood cats 99% of the time.

I would use a .22, but I live in the city.

    Any ideas?

A havaheart cage live trap. You can buy one for about $50 IIRC. Bait it with something sweet like strawberry jam that won't attract a cat. Or you could put a pile of corn next to the house and wait up with a light and a high power pellet gun. I've got a gamo that I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a coon in the head with under 20 yards......and it won't take long for a coon to find a corn pile.

Trap works best, just make sure it's a live trap. So you can release a cat or dog. Pellet gun will do the trick also and they are Silent.

Live trap with peanut butter as bait.

    I guarantee it will work.

I'm not sure if he will come to anything other than cat food though. I have a feeder in my backyard with corn, he never touches that. Might have to try the strawberry jam.

My Dad has a trap that he uses to trap strays cats in his garden. I'll borrow that this weekend. Never thought of using jam as a bait.

My sister in law has a huge problem with coons in her horse barn and uses a live catch trap baited with marshmallows. It seems to work every time.

You may catch a possum every now and then, but cats always left it alone.

    I'll second the marshmallows.

I live trapped hundreds of possums and coons growing up as a kid and marshmallows were the easy/cheap/most effective bait I found.

They love eggs too... Just take it straight from the carton and set in the live trap...

Easy, Rat poison and grape soda

Make sure you keep ALL other animals out of it. The coon won't make it 10 feet.

You should put those skirt things around the bottom of your trailer so animals can't get underneath it. ;)
