So according to this, mossyoak, realtree, etc with their lighter colors are not as good as old fashioned army style camo in brown, green and black?
That is what I gathered from it as well, the background color on those is grey which reflects blue light which they see. My only thought on this was is if that is the case then trees that have similar colors would reflect blue light also? or maybe because trees are a different material they don't? I guess maybe Duck blind Mossy Oak would be better since it is yellows and browns?
I thoroughly believe all the new Realtree and Mossy Oak hogwash is made to be attractive, eye catching, and stylish... not that the new camo doesn't do it's job, but over detailed camo just blends together from a distance, but looks great at arms length.
If this is going to turn into a camo debate I will weigh in with with this: Highly detailed camo patterns are designed first for fashion and second for hunting. At least they seem to be lately. Thanks to Duck Dynasty for that. Camo pattern may not matter much for deer hunting per the article in the OP but other game has way better eyesight than deer and even humans. Detailed camo has a legitimate place.
Thanks for the link... always had heard they see blues and blueish green and UV rays. The article explains it pretty well.
"Some parts of the camo you wear, especially the grey parts creating the depth, are reflecting blue light or UV light. This doesn’t mean you’re glowing, it just means there’s some blue tint to your silhouette." So does this mean Sitka Forest is a horrible pattern? Doesn't it have a bunch of greys in it? OUCHY!!!
That was exactly my point... I don't think the results are conclusive. Or grey doesn't reflect enough UV to make a difference.
Interesting article , so lots of grey will make you look like a smurf to a deer? Is this similar to taking a black light to your gear? It would show what is blue or uv reflective if I recall. Beefie
And deer are not afraid of smurfs! I'm going all grey with a beanie! How is the grey in bark different from the grey in camo? If you think about the 1st generation of TreeBark and Mossy Oak, you really would have looked like a smurf ... with a bad rash.
