If you could drive all the way up to the tree your stand is on how far is a good distance to park and hoof it the rest of the way? It's obviously not a good idea to park too close.

Depends on too many factors. Traffic, terrain, wind, trails to stand...

One of my gun stands in WI I park about 190 yds. I don't think I'd like to be much closer. Here in MN I walk, canoe or pontoon to my stand.

All depends on the situation. I have 1 spot that I park less than 100 yards away. Dirt road and small section of woods in suburbia...I also have an area in S Alabama where I park at least a mile away. We do not drive on that property unless it is to retrieve an animal. So I guess for me anywhere between 100 yards and a mile:tu:

Maybe post aerial map or something with proposed parking locations and maybe we can comment on your specific location.

The closest is about 75 yards, the furthest might be a half mile.

Some spots 50 yards. Others a mile. I really don't think (my opinion) that it matters.

    Ask yourself this.....

What are the deer you're hunting MORE used to seeing? Cars going by.......or people walking?

    Deer get used to both.

Are we talking about ATVs or trucks? Either way I park at least a quarter mile from my stands.

I leave the vehicle in the drive and walk anywhere from 100 yards to 1 1/2 miles.

Jeff, you're so right. When I hunt on urban properties ie: subdivisions with houses right next to each other on 1/2 acre lots. I can kill deer wearing blue jeans and a plain old teeshirt, right from work, no scent control and no wind worry, mostly. The deer are around humans all day and are use to the smells. Vehicles drive by them only yards away all day and night. If I go to the mountains...it's a whole different ball game.
