Steve not sure I have heard that corn gives no healthy benifits but it does give them energy for warmth, but I surprised to see that many dead all in one spot. It was on the edge of a small pine thicket and corn field..The wierd thing was the age of all them two were real young and one was a year and half and one doe was freaking huge, the buck was at least a 4 year old and he still had all his hair on him like he had only been dead about a month by best guessing. They seem to be doing ok here. Ive been seeing ALOT of young does/button bucks. And they seem to be healthy. Not alot of word on big bucks, besides that my neighbor saw one 2 weeks ago still carrying. I wish my deer camera worked so that i could start my inventory.

We seemed to have had a pretty rough winter(lotta snow cover & frozen up hard) but that has all melted. I haven't seen many deer up close to get a good look, but we typically don't ahve much in the way of winter kills around the places I hunt even in rough winters. As turkey season approaches & I get out more I'll get a better idea.

Saturday I decided to check out the property that borders mine and things weren't too good back there. The landowner doesn't live in the state but gave permission to a bunch of people to hunt that property including my family. I ended up find 10 dead deer, 1 doe, 3 missing heads, and 6 with skull plates cut off. It looks like the poachers were out in full force this year. The worst part is that the ground is constantly getting more attention from people. The edges of the land have been sold off in chunks and a few companies have built buildings around. All of the employees get a view of the deer in the soybean fields throughout the summer. Mix that in with the damn gaswell attendants and word of the big bucks spreads quick. I let my grandfather know about it and he is going to try to get ahold of the landowner and get ahold of the PGC as well, I just fear that it won't work, there are way too many people who have access to the land and could easily poach the deer, I have no clue as to how they could find these people or stop the problem.

This story just flat out sucks. It always kills me people resort to this.....there is nothing worse than coming up on stuff like this in the woods. I really hope you can get this stuff straightened out and hopefully catch someone in the process.

The winter here has been pretty mild in terms of precipitation. It's been really dry since the turn of the year, with burn-bans in place. The temperatures have been normal, but just not much snow or rain. The deer should be doing just fine... unlike the previous winter.

Gosh Troy.....when is it ever gonna end for you guys? I guess we are sneeking by with the warmer temps, basically, we are getting the thunderstorms while you are getting the blizzards! Bummer man. Especially with the state of your herd already!

Big news in Northern Idaho this week.. Our fish and games ANSWER to helping our depleting deer herds is to eliminate the late archery season but do nothing about the 50+ day rifle season that runs right through the rut. ITS COMPLETE BS! visit the Idaho Fish and Game and check out all of their REVENUE DRIVEN LOGIC...this is a joke..

    That's some rough going Troy.

As far as my deer, I finally saw some one of the last times I was out & about & thankfully they are looking pretty good. Lotta daylight acitivity lately but they look in pretty good shape.
