So the wife and I are considering getting a hot tub for our 5th year anniversary. In reality, it's my way of getting out of having to mess with one of those stupid semi-temporary pool setups she wants (we're not planning to live here forever, so I refuse to put in a new pool). :D I've done some research on them so I know what I need for wiring , placement of the tub, etc., However, that's about where it ends. Are the models that offer a lounge area worth sacrificing the extra 1 or 2 seats/people you can accommodate? What type of electric spike did you see once you were up an running? It seems most manufacturers recommend draining/cleaning several times a year. Good advice or unnecessary? How often do seals/pumps go out in these things? The last question also has me wondering why are used ones so cheap? Lack of care? Crazy depreciation? Any reason NOT to buy a used one at 30% of the new price if it's in good shape? Finally, do you use it much? :D
We have had our hot tub since I was born ('90) and even though it is old, the tub itself is in amazing shape. We emptied ours every year before winter and cleaned and waxed it every summer. Our was fiberglass so keeping it waxed was very important. Our biggest issue was critters getting into the electrical and chewing up wires while making nest. I cant recall anything ever gong except for the heater element once back in early 2000's. The best seat in the house was the lounger in our tub, had the most jets and blowers were in the deep pocket seats though. Hope this helps!
