I think I am going to try switching to a thumb trigger release. I've never had trouble with target panic, but while at my local bow shop yestersay I tried a thumb release and really liked the way it felt (I think it was a scott). Another reason the thumb style is appealing is because I can always have it hooked on my bow string, so while self filming I won't have to worry about my wrist style release clanking on my fluid head/camera, rangefinder, ect. I've been looking at a few brands and I like how the hot shot vapor is geared towards bow hunters, and the reviews seem solid. The price tag is also appealing. So my question is, does anybody on here use this release? Or have any recommendations on what I should go with? Thanks!
I got one last year and really like it. I did not hunt with it only because I received it right before season and didn't feel like I had enough time to really get used to it. But it is very adjustable as far as being able to move the barrel is concerned. The trigger sensitivity is also very adjustable too, I have mine set very light as I tend to jerk the trigger. I've been practicing using back tension to fire it and so far it has proved to be more accurate that way. The only thing that I don't like/foresee as a possible issue is because it is direct impingement, that if you were for some reason to bump or hit the trigger you could possibly drop it off of your D-loop unlike other thumb releases that cock and then clip on to the D-loop. Mine was very well machined and feels solid. And I too liked the price point. Hope this helps.
In order to use back tension on a thumb release you need a heavy trigger. Lay your thumb over the barrel and squeeze through. Too light of a trigger won't allow that especially since gloves can dull your feeling of the trigger. The shot will be gone before you can squeeze through. And any thumb release will fall off the d loop if the trigger is hit. As for the vapor, Hotshot makes a fantastic product. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I tried several thumb releases before getting a Stan Shootoff. I really like the tension adjustability and quality of the Stan. Carter is another tried and true thumb release, of which there are many to choose from. Get what's affordable if you need to initially, just so you can decide if that's the way you want to go.
I shoot with the thumb cut off of my gloves for feel but I don't believe that as a generality you need to have a "heavy trigger" to fire a thumb release via back tension. Firing with back tension is about the technique no matter what type of release you shoot. And I only made mention of the possibility of the release coming off because if there is no tension on the vapor the jaw is fairly easily opened vs a traditional thumb release that needs to be cocked and clipped to the D-loop.
You can't pull through the shot if you can't rest your thumb on the trigger without setting it off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I ordered the 3 finger today, quite the difference in price too, $100.00 is huge specially if you don't like it. $119.00 vs $219.00 plus $24 for shipping ,man it only weighs 4.2 ounces, what's up with that? Rocky
