Well my sister saw a couple does but she said they were small. I didn't expect to see much today since my cousin jumped a bunch of does and a big buck last night. There wasn't much movement today and my sister was the only one to see anything out of 4 people. At least I know I have a decent spot now and I can see them during the day now instead of morning and night.
To make a really long story short. I woke up this morning as i have 30 or more times this season. I get set up on my food plot for the first time this year. The wind couldnt be better. 10 minutes after getting settled I have 4 does work their way in. As they work their way off and the sun comes up I'm sitting there thinking this is probably going to be a bust as it has been the last who knows how many times. Then I look up and it's that lone doe trotting towards me, mouth open. It's on!!! I know for sure she's hot and I just can't wait. 5 minutes later I see them big o antlers coming down the same trail. I start fumbling for grunt call and range finder. Double check my range and I'm ready. Errr. And he don't stop. I panic. ErrrrrrrRRRRR. He stops and I squeeze. Instantly drops. I know he's spine shot but I can't get another arrow in him quick enough. After the season I've had. I would have bet money we would have got up and ran off. This deer is my biggest bow buck for sure and just wish these pics did him justic. He don't have them long times but has plenty of mass to make up for it. I'm thinking he's close to 130. Here is a few pics.
How do I measure when I have a g1 that splits. The g1 is 4" with a 1 6/8 split. Does the 1 6/8 get added on the the final score?
Here's my cousins first buck. I wish I could have seen it in person but they took it right to the butcher and taxidermist.
I moved my blind so that my sister might have a chance to get the big buck he saw. It's her first year and I can't shoot a buck so I figured I should give her a better chance at getting a deer because we didn't see anything in the last spot.
Yea add the split to the gross score as a abnormal point I believe. Great buck bud, congrats to ya!!!
You measure the back of the tine from where it meets the main beam to the tip. That's your G1. You then measure the split point from where it meets the G1 to the tip. That is counted as an AB1 (abnormal) and gets added to the gross score for that side. Congrats on a great buck. You simply cannot beat these cold November days we've been having. The bucks are covering some serious ground right now. On a side note I tagged out with this nice buck I shot on Sunday morning. Wasn't the best shot in the world and he wasn't recovered until Monday morning. Poor decision on my part to take a shot I had no business taking, but what's done is done. My season is over for bucks. May try to get out and shoot a doe late season at some point.
Awesome JZ!!! Heck of a season and well deserved! Congrats on all the success! He's a stud like your others!
Congrats JUSTIN on a great season. Well I am off to Ohio for a week of hunting. It'll be my last week of bow hunting since VA gun season comes in tomorrow and last till January.
Good luck out there! Things are still rocking and bucks are on their feet. Just about everyone I talk to says this has been by far one of the best seasons they've ever seen. I'm a little sad I'm tagged out - would love to be in the woods this weekend! I think I'm going to try and whack a doe from the ground before the end of the year. That will be something to keep me occupied for awhile anyways.
Doe down, pictures to follow This young man decided to check out the arrow used on the doe. Just not what I'm looking for right now.
Any news? I haven't got out in a while but I'm going to sit in the blind with my sister this weekend. Since its her first year and I got my deer I'm trying to see if I can help her get that big buck my cousin saw bedded down in the swamp about a week ago. I might even bring my bow incase she gets a deer then maybe we can both tag out.
