has anyone tried any of these? Just wondering how good they would work in early October before the rut? Seen a couple videos on them but not a lot of information.

Here’s all I’ve heard about them. I believe Ted Miller is the horizontal rub pioneer, but I could be wrong.

There’s quite a few questions that are answered in that podcast to get you started. They’re not intended to pull the deer away from their normal travel routes, and a horizontal rub isn’t like a “lure”. I think they’re intended to stop bucks on their normal travel routes and give a shot opportunity or a photo op.

I've never done a horizontal one but I like go do vertical ones. Here's some pics of one I did this weekend.

I transplant these little scrub pines (as I call them) onto trails near my stand and trim most of the branches off. One side i will break a branch and let it hang about chest high and on the other I hung a grape vine. But just snapping a branch or even hanging a small rope will work. I spray some preorbital scent on the hanging limbs and a bit on the base of the tree and rough up the ground and pee in it. Once I get pics of deer actually using the tree I stop peeing by it and don't touch it at all. Deer will use it year round until the limbs finally fall off.

I love the premise and have seen a natural one 2 years ago. Think I'll be faking one this year and I'll be sure to cam it for results

I was thinking of doing the same thing .. experiment with it! I mean what do I have to lose... it’s not costing me anything but time and labor and there’s nothing unnatural about a tree branch ... unlike scents etc

Been thinking of setting one up on my property also and putting a cam on it to see.

I’ve been wanting to try this but haven’t had the time to set it up.
Ted Miller is the man when it comes to horizontal rub setups!

There’s another hunting public podcast that talks about licking sticks. It sounds pretty interesting as well!
