So I ordered myself some new broadheads and I am going back to fixed blade from my NAP Killzones. The reason I am switching is that I want a broadhead that can penetrate better than what I have. For awhile it has been bothering me so I did a little research and I ordered some new ones that should be here by Saturday. I'm going with the QAD Exodus 100 grains. So at this point in the season it's usually not recommended to change up your gear and I know better, however I have enough confidence in the new broadhead and my finely tuned bow that it shouldn't be a problem. Also I will be making sure that they fly good out of my setup upon entering the field with them. Any other guys switch up your gear midseason?
If your bow is already bareshaft/broadhead tuned then switching broadheads mid season shouldn't be a problem. Me personally I love my NAP Killzones and will continue using them for a long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have shot NAP Kill zones for several seasons now and have NEVER had a problem. (Knock on wood) Almost every shot I have had on a deer has gone straight through the deer and even a few yards further into the woods. I have even killed a black bear with a NAP kill zone that went through double lungs and flew approximately 10 yards further into the underbrush. If a hunter makes a good shot with good placement, then he/she should never have a problem with penetration with NAP Killzones. I don't agree that penetration is the issue. It's your shot placement.
I have switched bows twice mid season. In 2012 my wife bought me a brand new Bowtech Assassin in late October for my birthday (my b-day is 11\10 but she got it for me early). I shot a doe the first hunt with it. Then last year my 70# Experience was really bothering my back so I switched to an 60# RPM 360 in late October. I shot a buck 2 weeks later.
I never said I had problems with my Killzones. I've shot two deer with them. They fly great and I've had two out of two pass throughs. I'm thinking of what happens when the unexpected happens, when the shot isn't the best, what happens then? I make the best shot I possibly can. I totally agree with you that there is nothing wrong with Killzones and shot placement is ideal. I think I would feel more comfortable shooting a fixed blade.
I don't see that you'll regret it. You will check to make sure they fly correctly first so you won't have any problems. They come razor sharp just like NAP heads do. 1-1/4" is a pretty good cut for a fixed head as well.
Like others have said, make sure you shoot them a bit just in case. Too many just screw a broadhead on anyways and start hunting.
I have been hesitant to shoot broadheads into certain targets but I have a nice 18:1 that I will try out once I get the broadheads. Pretty stoked on how well they perform.
