Well I shouldn't have hunted Saturday due to being sick.....reverted to an even worst state now. Trudging through work today, but I bet earliest I get back out to hunt will be maybe thursday or Friday if not this weekend. Still bow here for me despite gun season being open, I really have no personal desire to shoot a buck with a gun, however the card pulls at the Swamp Property show a spot that we have no stands or blinds at would be high percentage of getting a shot if I took muzzleloader to a deadfall 100 yards away....gonna fight that urge though. Good luck to everyone...late season bow hunting sucks due to temps but I'll be honest something priceless about laying a deer down in snow or the bitter cold with a bow!

Wow those are some awsome deer JLS

Well weekend was full of does. About the last 45min of light last night it started snowing pretty hardand I had a buck come sneaking behind me at about 70 yards. Pulled up the binos and from what I could tell with it snowing do hard it was a pretty good buck with a quick glance. Not certain on how great though. Heres some pics I pulled off the public that some may have seen in the group text. I got pictures of this deer on the 25th and noticed he looked a lot like the split brow 10 I had pictures of last year. Well after these pictures I am not certain it is due to some scaring on his back. Last winter he had no hair on his back from scratching it with his horns for some reason. Its just a matter of time before I catch up with one out there.
P.S. This was when I was at my lease not seeing much.........

I haven’t posted for a while because I have been out hunting for the past week.
I managed to drop a 4x5 buck Sunday morning. It was a great hunt but in cold weather. The best hunting equipment I bought this year was the Heater Body suit. All the guys at camp never went out in the mornings because of the temp while I was able to because of the suit.
The wind was wrong for my ground blinds so I set my Ghost Blind up on a major trail. A hot doe had 4 bucks trailing her. I had a decoy out and the largest was determined to figure out why my decoy was in his area. I drew on him the first time but must have made some noise in the snow and he spooked 10 yards away in the trees still staring at the decoy. I held the draw as long as I could then figured as I let down the hunt would be over. He never busted me but sat there and stared at the decoy what seemed like 20 minutes but I bet was only 10 minutes. Now the problem was that the Heater Body suit is great while on but doesn’t do much good when it’s off your shoulders waiting on a buck. When he finally got done with his stare down he walked to the south and I was able to hit him at the only opening in the trees. I didn’t get a complete pass through but with the snow to aid in trailing him and all things considered it worked out.
I will get photos with my bow tonight before I process him in my garage. Now I can go out with the rifle and get another next weekend.

My pops has I believe the warm bag....plan on using it some late season over our brassicas when he's not using it.

Yeah is it just a extra layer to help keep warmth in and wind out or can you not wear as many layers and use that?

Depends how cold it is. Pops dresses light on way in when he knows he'll be using it and then gets it on at site. He swears it's the only way he could hunt in the teens and single digit weather we are having now.

As for actual layers still worn I believe he's still got on baselayers, a thin fleece layer and maybe one exterior thin jacket or such, but yeah if you wear too much you pay for it in too much heat...nice thing is you can always shed layers.

HMM might be something to consider cause I hate wearing 20 layers trying to stay warm. Plus with all those layers its more of a pain to draw your bow, make sure everything is how it needs to be, and worry about string hitting your slevee

I hate how bulky they are but I'd rather be on stand not freezing than on freezing or worse yet heading home.

Yeah and how easy is to actually get out of that thing when the time presents it self? And its it 5x more movement trying to get out to take a shot?? Idk would have to try one out to see type thing

This is my first year using it but I can wear a base layer and a fleece and be perfectly fine. I wore a little more with the temps we had last week but didn't have any problem getting cold and that kept me in the brush. I was worried about the zipper noise and the movement but this group of bucks came out in my blind spot(I was tucked in the cedars). I saw a younger buck at 15 yards and was able to unzip it and then get it off my shoulders while he was looking at the trailing bucks. I think the fact I had a decoy out also helped. That kept their attention.
To get out you unzip from the inside and just slide your arms out. There are shoulder straps that keep everything from falling so its really not that bad for movement. I would have thought it would have been worse.
I got it this year because last year I hit a doe to far back because my string hit my sleeve and I didn't want that to happen again.

Would be a pretty good thing I think for when I hunt public land. so that way I wouldnt have to bring as many clothes out. Sucks cause I have to carry all my clothes plus everything else until I get out there then get the rest of the way dressed. I am sure it helps keep feet warmer also??

It rolls up so the size of a smaller sleeping bag and has shoulder straps. I clip the straps to my pack that has all my hunting stuff in it and away I go. I never wear a lot of cloths out so I don't sweat. I just wore Muck boots and my feet were fine while the temps were in the single digits. By the time I get in my stand I am ready to put the suit on but it packs a lot easier than the extra cloths I would always bring.

Man now you have me considering this instead of getting the warmer camo I was going to get.
