Alright well I havent been on here since I started my vacation on the 30th. Heres a little recap for the people that arent in the group text. Hunt started out great with seeing a ton of deer the first few days. Sunday 11/2 rolled around and we had a temp drop, knew coming into it that it would be a great day. Well I sat all morning seeing a bunch of does and a few little bucks. 10:00 rolls around I look up to a little thicket pactch and notice a little movement. Pull up the binos and instantly knew what buck it was. His messed up side with a giant G2 instantly gave him away. He was about 100 yards away at that point so I gave him a few soft grunts. He was on a string following a trail that would bring him by at 18 yards. there was a few chances I could have slipped in a slight quarter to shot but since I was self filming I was waiting for him to hit a big gap to make it easier with the camera. He stopped right before the opening just looking around for what made the grunts. Well since he didnt see anything he decided to turn straight away and walk back to the field with standing corn. Here are a couple screen shots from the footage. After that I should have known to go sit one stand cause it seems every time we have a encounter there in the morning the buck will show up on the far west side of the farm that evening. Sure enough he was right infront of my stand at 5:15. Nothing to exciting for the next few days so I decided I would go sit the public land wednesday evening to switch it up. Well at about 5:00 the buck I had a encouter with a few weeks back came chasing a doe to me. Never closed in close enogh to even try deciding if I wanted to shoot him or not now since hes busted up. After that night things just shut down with very few sightings each sit the rest of the week. I have a feeling it has something to do with the full moon, standing corn, and bucks starting to lock down. After sitting till noon yesterday I checked 5 cameras on the east half of the farm and Machete was on all of them during the night hours. Typically I have Tuesday off but weather is suppose to be real crappy so instead I will be taking wednesday off. We are having a 20 degree drop in temps and moon will be about half. Hoping this will perk things back up. After wednesday my lease will shut down pretty much since gun season is opening Saturday. I will be banking on my public land spot come Saturday since it is archery only and dont have to worry about gun pressure at all. After this weekend I will be shooting the first mature doe so you can count on at least 50 points from me for sure. Still have a few trips to Ohio this year to
Very Nice! The way it's looking i'm gonna go two years straight without a decent Buck! Maybe I'll get lucky in the morning and see one of the 8's, maybe the 9 or 10 point. The 9 Point I call G3 has disappeared. Maybe he wondered off and got himself killed...lol. Haven't heard anything though, of course the Road hunters don't broadcast a lot either.
All set in a public land spot. Had a deer walk past about 10 yards behind me just before daybreak. I've decided to deploy my Mr October without antlers to use as a doe decoy. Have her near a scrape with estrus scent all around her. Hunting from the ground and hoping she sparks ones curiosity.
As some of you may know I'm not to active on the message board, I frequently check in but I'm not much of a big talker. Glad I could finally contribute! I only get to hunt mornings do to my job but I make the best of the time I got. I do a lot of offseason prep on the farm I live on and some neighboring property's. My season didn't start till opening day (OCTOBER 20th) been at it every morning since with no real good sightings. Got in this morning to awful weather, about 55 degrees and foggy. Almost thought about going back to bed but dragged my butt to my stand. After 45 mins saw this buck come from behind me to my right, he stopped about 40yards away with his nose up down wind of me(thought for sure he was gunna bust me) only shot I had was at 23 yards without any limbs in the way, luckily he came to that 23 yard spot. I let a arrow fly and was unsure about the shot. Went back to my house where my father was waiting to go track and discuss our options on how to handle this. After deciding to wait 2 hours we went to go pick up the blood trail.. We Found him 150yards from my stand! When I shot his shoulder was back so when he started running it looked like a forward shot but it ended up passing through his front shoulder and taking out both lungs. Realized it was "No brow" a deer we have trail cam pics of. All and all I couldn't be more happier, we don't have the biggest or a lot of deer in MA so this is certainly a trophy to me. Ill be back in the stand this weekend. Let's keep it going team 4!! Enjoy!
Dude great buck man!!! How many can you guys take in Mass? Season done or still gonna be hunting some? Again congrats man, awesome buck.
