Wow didn't know that thanks buddy. I hunt where I live at and don't want something that happenings to my 3 years old thanks for the info
Will be in the woods in a couple weeks. Can't wait! The leaves are changing, makes me feel like I should be there.
Finally got out for a morning and an evening sit. Had a coyote skirt through this morning. This evening I had a button buck come in, got within 5 yards. Was getting ready to draw, and he out his head down and saw the buttons.
Well had an awesome sit this evening . Got up in a stand just to watch my brother shoot his second ever archery buck . I'd of sure shot something if it would have happened by but this evening was all about him . He had been dreaming about the buck that I posted the picture of the other day but ended up shooting the wrong buck Didn't take much to convince him that it was all good though , he still shot a decent 3.5 year old buck and if he was excited enough to shoot then it's all good . I watched the buck run 80 yards or so and pile up .... a great site to see . We let the buck lay for 30 minutes then I drove in and picked them both up . Thinking the stand should be good for a few more sits before the beans turn and we still have a few shooters in the area .
Well, my season has started. Got two more days then work for 4 days, then off for a week. Seen a nice little 6 point this morning but passed on him. Might regret it later...lol. Not sure if i'm gonna shoot any doe's off my land this year. The little 6 point was a decent deer.
I screwed up tonight . Started off passing on a nice 150ish 10 then had another decent 10 come out . As the light was fading my stud that I was hoping to see came out . The shot looked great but the results are less than stellar . Not really sure what went wrong but have seen something like this before . The buck was quartering away slightly and my arrow was sticking out of the ground at an odd angle after it passed through . I've got nothing but muscle on the shaft but did find some blood . The buck ran back into the brush about 50 yards and then slowly walked off from there . I had shot a buck several years ago that done the same thing but it was in the open enough that I could figure out what had happened . Thinking that I deflected off a rib and rather than going through the buck , it went straight out the front . The blood that was found was spotty and ended quickly , I'm 99% sure that tonights buck is still alive but the 1% will have me spending 1/2 the day out there tomorrow to make sure . Hate that I have messed this stand up for nothing but that's hunting sometimes . We have now seen 7 different shooters from this stand but once the beans are done , I'll still find one of them from another stand and hopefully I'll get another chance at this one .
Dang Johnny, do you think the shot was low? I had that happen before...deer ended up being shot by my cousin months later and there was a scar heald over low, just behind the shoulder, I guess brisket.
The shot looked pretty good and I really thought I was going for a short walk in to drag him out . I've had something like this happen before and with the sign and the direction the arrow was stuck in the ground , I believe that it has happened again . The first time , I shot the buck again the next season . I will probably not get that lucky again but all the sign so far points to this buck still being alive . I will know more in the morning though .
Love the bladed G2 on your brother's buck.... ....GET A TRACKING DOG if legal bud, no other way to 100% confirm or deny if it still lives. Be thinking of you as you look.
Thanks guys going to give a all I got this year. Probably sit and observe opening day Congrats on your brothers buck as long as he was thrilled thats all that matters JLS just get out there and try your hardest to find that deer dont give up just yet.
Thanks all ! Managed to pick up the blood trail where we had lost it last night . It was pretty spotty and all from one side of the buck and after 300 yards or so , started turning watery . Managed to follow the trail a long ways but only because he stuck to the same trail . There were several times that I went 40 yards without a speck of blood . Around 10:00 this morning , I jumped the buck and I'm happy to say that he was looking pretty healthy for having been shot . When I checked out his bed there wasn't much blood there so I am positive that this buck will survive to be shot again . I am pretty dedicated to a blood trail till I find my deer or know what has happened . I have only claimed twice in the past that a buck is still alive (once on a buck I shot 6 years ago and on my daughters buck 2 years ago) and have been right both times . Although I hate making that claim , I believe that this buck is unrecoverable due to the fact that I plain ol didn't kill it . When he got out of his bed this morning , I thought that it looked like the arrow had hit him perfect . The shot had entered about 2 inches behind the shoulder and about 7 inches up from the bottom of his chest . Once again this should have been a dead deer and after having this happen for a second time ..... I will never shoot a Muzzy again .
