Out in the woods right now. But its windy out have trouble listing for foot steps or anything and its still really thick out here too. But I'll be out till theres no more light
Well went out last night and seen a few deer just nothing for me yet . We had put up a new stand and seen a couple decent bucks come out on the south side of another stand across the field and hope to get my brother a shot at this buck on Saturday . It will be his largest and only his 2nd buck with a bow in 39 years .... he shot his first last year , late bloomer Pulled a bunch of stands off of a lease today , bad deal but it is what it is . Although I hardly ever hunted it there were a lot of people that we allowed to hunt it and I hate that it will affect their season . Hope to find something to fit our needs a little better , soon !!
Not yet , but hopefully... soon . I've had some history with that buck and he'd be 4.5 now . I'll post some picks Sat. if it happens
Awesome. Well best of luck to both him and you. I could only wish something of that caliber would walk in front of me. One day I'll have the land to manage the way I see fit and be hunting bucks like that. I think it would be amazing to have history with specific bucks and have the land and opportunities to let them mature and hunt them when the time is right. I can't wait until I'm able to do those things.
It is nice to have properties that have a lot of good bucks and while this one has my brother twisted in knots , it is considered a cull by those that believe in it around here but I have seen them develop at 5 years old . He does have the start of a couple kickers on him that I wouldn't mind seeing next year . I tell everyone that I let hunt this farm that they can shoot anything 3.5 or older and this one qualifies . Got to admit that if my brother shoots him , I'll probably be more excited than he will Really thought you might be interested in said history !! I had watched a 3.5 year old 10 point two years ago . He came out chasing a whole herd of doe and gave me the impression that one of them had to be hot . Try as he may though , he couldn't figure out which one . He finally gave up and exited the field , right past my stand . Along comes this little 8 point and he starts chasing all the doe around . He managed to chases couple of doe right under my stand and I decided to shoot one of them . After I got done shooting the doe and watching her go down 70 yards out , I looked back out in the field and seen this
Well guys I blew 50 points for us las night. Had a doe walking drew back as she was walking around a bush and I guess she stopped for a second, I look around for her to come out and as soon as she did the damn bow cremped on me and she got me. Nerves where a little high first hunt of the year. I know one thing a Hoyt rampage xt will take off on you if not holding it good. But it was my first hunt of the year got the rust off me. Sorry guys
JLS thats a good looking buck your putting your brother on. There must be some giants lurking around if your calling that a cull buck Almighty still have plenty of time to fill the freezer i wouldnt let that get to ya
At 4.5 he's sure not showing the growth that most bucks would have in this area but I'm not sure I really believe in culls . Yes , we do have and always have had some giant bucks around but that doesn't mean I'm holding out for one . I'm just not ready to settle for another 130" buck just yet . My brother hasn't been a s fortunate in his hunting as I have and thinks this buck is a stud so I'm going to help him out . He's even confessed to having dreams about this buck so I'll be as excited as he is if he puts him down on Saturday .
Bet that got the heart rate up We've all been there and had a lot of learning moments and there ain't a one of us that are done learning . Better luck next time !!!
Maybe it just the picture but he looks bigger then 130. Hopefully you guys can put him down this weekend. Gonna keep us on our toes
Yea I'd say 7 of 10 times I go out I see something but if I see a doe with some fawns I'll pass on them. There is a fox I want to shot so freaking bad it's not funny I saw him yesterday too but he was about 80 yards out. I shot at him last year and just and I mean just miss him lol
My mistake , I should have put 130s . I believe that this buck is mid 130s but will admit that the mass could surprise me . I think the part that throws most on that buck is that although it looks tall , the main beams go up instead of out and the tines are shorter than they appear
Ahh alright so got just be the picture then thats making me think he's bigger. Well hurry up and knock him down so I can see some better pics
I won't shoot a doe with fawns this time of year either but they'll be fair game soon . Sounds like you'll get a few more chances and I hope you get that fox soon !!! Be extra careful around them dang fox . I heard a story on the radio about one attacking at a school playground yesterday . Them things can be ferocious .
