Yea this year I'm changing some things too, trying to learn from some things that I messed from last year. I could of had two or three more deer last year if I would of took a sooner shot instead of wanting for it. Just little thinks to change part learning we all do it
All setup and waiting on some deer and daylight. Feels amazing to be back in the tree. It's freezer filling time!!!
I've been out of town for work but I did manage to get out a couple days a week ago. Passed on a nice 4x4 and a couple of does. There is a 5x6 that I am trying to find before he goes nocturnal. I have him patterned where he goes out to the field just need the right wind and I should be able to get him within bow range. Trying to head out again later this week for a couple of days. Good luck to everyone that just started their season.
Well went out and got a little fix of hunting saturday and sunday morning until our seasons come around. Went out to the lease yesterday afternoon and cleared up a lot of the storm damage. Also moved around a few cameras/ put some on time lapse mode. Did get a email from the farmer this morning, said hes been seeing a big at least a 9 maybe 10pt behind his house every night. Going to go out there tomorrow and put a camera up to see if i cant get a picture and see who it is maybe
Got out into the woods and put up my hang-on into a new section which I saw a bunch of deer move through last year. Only 50 yards or so from my tree last year but, I think it will be a good move. Not as many shooting lanes as I would have liked but, I think it will do for a few sits. I can always make a few cuts after the leaves drop. It was the first time I had my oldest in the woods. He is 7 and we walked a total of 3 miles. Total champ. Along the way...incredibly we saw a bear, coyote, and two turkeys. He loved the walk and when my wife asked him how it was...he said there were too many amazing things to talk about. One that he mentioned was how the mountain laurel made a large tunnel that we talked through. Priceless times. He is dying to get out and hunt with me. So, I have the hang-on in there and will take the climber for moving around testing areas through the season. I'm all set and ready for start in a few weeks!!!
Check out this buck I call G3. Got a good pic of him losing his velvet. https://www.facebook.com/4269610740...6961074034357/768026683261126/?type=1&theater
I have 7 year old boy as well there is no one else I would rather have in the woods with me. Great times.
Awesome pic! Even better buck!! Some good posts here guys seems things are coming together. I only have about 40 mins of shooting light left. Pulled the all day sit for the opener, just because. Haha. Had a hunter walk in on me just before daybreak. Then I shot at a coyote that I misjudged distance on and it went right over his back. Probably took a few hairs that's how close it was. First time I've seen a coyote on stand, let alone shot at one, so that was the highlight of my day. Disappointed to not see any deer but what can I say. Unless something awesome happens in the next 30 mins.:p
Thanks, I got some good Buck's for Tennessee on my place this year. Just if they'll stick around and i'm lucky enough to get a shot at one. They have hung out all year around my farm so hopefully i'll get to see one hunting. I do have 2.5 year old Spike...lol. I think I might shoot him if I get a chance this year. Not sure what's up with him. He had some wild looking stubs last year too. He does have about 9" spikes this year. I really don't think he will amount to much, not sure why though. That buck in the pic I call him G3, he's a 9 point. Last year he was a 7 point. I also got some daylight pics of him. They only way I can tell their the same deer is they have certain marks on them....lol. I sure hope you get a big one, good luck.
I know one thing for sure grim reaper WS are razor sharp I cut the **** out of my hand today going through arrows and its not really that bad its like a deep paper cut. Can't wait to send one down range at something lol
Got my spot picked out for the first hunt of the season , now just need to make it out there this afternoon. I had plans of going this afternoon but the wife pulled the "I got 2 days of training" bit on me last night . Coarse it requires an over night stay ..... don't know why they don't just call it a party . The kids have an early out of school and the youngest boys social worker has to show up this afternoon but I still think that I can be in a tree by 5:00 . Don't have a stand in the spot yet and haven't decided if I will try to rush around and put one up or not . Got a pretty brushy fence row that I can set up in so might just sit on the ground . Either way it will be nice to finally get out .
I got some more decent pics at my house. Posted a few on my Facebook page. My internet is so slow, I don't post many. Takes forever to upload them...lol.
Well deer were seen and heard but didn't load anything in the back of the truck . Heard a few grunts and a little sparing and finally seen the bucks as they crossed a creek heading to the neighbors bean . Did have a couple of doe pass the stand fairly close and was a little disappointed at not seeing any fawns with them . Didn't have many fawns on that farm last year but have seen a few this year , still have a few Bobcats and Coyotes to remove before my fawn recruitment gets better . Probably wont be shooting any doe there again this year . I not only allowed a trapper on the farm last year during deer season , I practically begged to show up ..... come to find out , begging wasn't needed cause not many allow him to trap during deer season . If any of you ever have a problem with losing fawns , a trapper can be found .
I have been fortunate to have many pics of does with quite a few fawns on the land I hunt. I actually pretty upset that I missed that yote on opening morning. I need to practice taking shots from sitting position in my stand.
Same here we had a great fawn dropping this year. I dont have to many coyotes on the farm during the summer and deer season. Once winter comes though there all over for some reason but my deer are a few miles south by then. Foxes on the other hand are all over this year but they dont bother the deer to much it seems as i have pictures of both them and deer in the food plots
Finally get to head out in a tree tomorrow. Going to be going out for our early doe to see if I cant stock back up the freezer. Not sure yet if I will be hunter or filmer yet tomorrow. Weather is looking kinda effy on rain so hopefully can get out in between the rain
