Water Moccasins here and there are the main ones if you run across any that are poisonous. Rumors each year surface of a variety of rattlesnake being found but have only heard of a couple confirmed ones from the local park rangers/ DNR guys over the years.
Copperheads are moving up this was from the south on the news a fews ago a kids at camp not far here stepped on one and it bit his leg. Leg got big but the will be OK after a few weeks. There more south like NC
I grew up hunting around Copperheads , they usually try to avoid contact with humans but will bite if they feel trapped . Of coarse like anything , they can be aggressive during breeding season . They never bothered me too much but it always best to pay attention to where your walking .
Hung 3 new cams where this bad boy and two other shooters is living....would have had some more pics but the one camera we had wasn't operating correctly....love how this guy swoops in:
I dont blame u there. Good thing I dont have to worry about them. Only snakes I ever really see are gardners which are harmless. We have rattle snakes but I think I have only ever seen 2 when I was younger when we would look for snakes.
Awesome buck Ty !! Seen a couple like that this morning but no pics . Kind of dumb of me but I figured out why I haven't been seeing much while out looking . My warm season grasses in my terraced CRP is just to tall due to all the rain this year . If the 2 bucks this morning hadn't of been running around jumping for whatever reason , I wouldn't have seen them . Not really sure why they were acting the way they were but would imagine they were chasing a Coyote or something.... never seen a couple of 2.5 year olds act like that without good reason .
How many stands/locations does everyone have out there this year ? I'm kind of lucky in that department as we own the only store in a small farming community so I end up turning down offers to hunt some land . We have 21 stands out now on 7 farms and have a few stands held back that we'll put out if we find a spot that needs one . We'll also sit the ground in a few places but it's pretty rare .
After the drought of the last couple of years , I was almost confused by the lack of sightings ..... glad I finally figured it out
Let's see: Swamp Property (3rd year on this one) and we got 5 stands up on it and one ground blind....may be having a 6th one soon depending on sign. Homestead Property (the one I grew up on and in parent's possession) and we got 3 stands with also a blind set up. River Bottom Property (the one from the picture above) has 2 stands on it. Candyland is a property we were given permission but having issues with "trespassers" makes us hesitant to hunt it and haven't put stands on it till owner gets back in town and we can talk....probably climbers and ground hunting if any this year.
I have never used any ground blinds for deer season but did purchase several this spring to have around for a youth turkey hunt that we host every year . I've been thinking of setting a couple up for my daughter during youth rifle season . My ? Is , how soon before season should I put them out or would I be better off setting them up as we are getting ready to hunt ?
I have 1 two person ladder stand for my girlfriend and I. Then I have a climber I mainly use. I have 6 different locations on trimmed and set up for the climber. 4 spots on the semi private land I hunt and 2 on public land.
welllll lease- 7 double sets county farm- 2 double sets and a box blind across the street from the house- 2 stands behind the house- 1 stand public land I use my muddy set and move around between 5 diffrent spots maybe a couple more this year
Love sharing time in the outdoors with others . Does your girlfriend hunt ? I have a 2 person ladder stand that's on it's last leg but I can't stand to get rid of it for all the moments shared and memories made . 4 kids and the wife have shot deer out of it and it's seen most of thems best buck . Might have to pull it after this season and see what I can do for it .
I have 3 set up on our farm in Ga, then one on my main spot in NC. My alpha 2 and sticks are used primarily.
This will be her first season actually hunting. She finished both her hunters safety course and archery safety course this past couple months. I took her along with me last season for a ground hunt, her first time actually watching the marvel that is the woods coming to life in the morning, and she loved it. We didn't see anything that day, as far as deer is concerned, but she was in awe and i think she's been hooked ever since. She's been shooting her bow like crazy and is super excited about this season.
Where in GA Matt? I lived in Albany/Leesburg. GA for 9 years. I would like to go back there and hunt it some day.
