That sucks GMMAT. How old is the house, the drywall shouldn't fall off like that and most builders around here use an adhesive and screws to prevent that from happening. You also sure that wall you took out wasn't a load bearing wall?
My lands Jeff, that is a hell of a hole in there  That looks like the whole sheet came down  Man i have done many many a dry wall, and i can tell you its going to be a job matching it back up with the textured ceiling with out re texturing the whole thing. I feel for ya on that one.
Holy crap Jeff and I was going to post what my wife just laid on me but nevermind now. Put those 2 fella's coming down next weekend to work, hahaha@diesel
Jeff, did you happen to want vaulted ceilings? Now is the time to do it. I feel for ya man...... I thought my basement was going to be a crappy project..... Hopefully you can get this situation fixed soon.
They have different construction methods in the SOUTH!!!! That drywall did NOT have any adhesive, I'll guarantee you that, otherwise you'd still see the paper hanging on the rafters. And they didn't use near enough screws, or they used nails, older technology, not quite as effective. Jeff, Sorry to hear about your MESS. Make sure they put adhesive on the NEW DRYWALL when they hang it, it also keeps the sound down, as well as keeping it from falling. I've done tearouts, where we pulled all the screws or nails we could find, and the drywall was still clinging to the wall, d/t the adhesive. It's good stuff and don't cost much at all, especially if it could potentially prevent a disaster.
When did I say it twice? Here is a picture of a tray ceiling. Not sure you could pull it off with the trusses due to support but if you could it would be pimp.
