My bow doesn't come with a string stop and I am too cheap to pay however much Limbsaver charges for theirs, so has anyone tried to make one. I have tried about three different designs with no luck. They all include some sort of angle iron, washers, nuts, a length of threaded bar stock 5/16" or 3/8" thick, bolt and nut to hold to the bow, and a rubber piece to catch the string. I have had no luck, cause it impossible to center to the string, and when the string hits it veers to the right of the stop piece. If anyone has had better luck I'd appreciate it, cause when the string was veering right, well my arrows ended up going anywhere they pleased (had to dig some of them out of my fence)!
Sounds like a lot of hassle with all those parts. All that metal is a lot of added weight as well. There are ready-made stoppers that are cheaper than the limbsaver. A quick Google search came up with this as a result: http://www.eders.com/product.php?productid=167006&gclid=CN3P_5Gwz7MCFYuZ4AodIEUAaQ
Dude save a couple bucks up and just buy one! The time and money your spending trying to make your own PLUS the damage you are doing to your arrows and your bow will most likely be more expensive than buying an actual stop.
Actally my bow and arrows are fine, I used rubber washers. Although I took it off and there really doesn't seem to be much of a difference in loudness. So I guess string stoppers are overrated.
Well ... I'd have to say based off my experience they are certainly not over rated. I think you will find that the CORRECT string stop, installed CORRECTLY on your bow WILL in fact make an improvement!
No, your homemade ones that aren't working or installed correctly aren't making a difference. A proper string stop built and installed correctly actually works very well and is an improvement.
