how long does it take a deer head to decompose, because instead of boiling the head and all that junk i decided to just cut the head off and leave it hangin from a tree. how long would it take?

Depends on weather and animals, that is not going to produce a good euro you would be better to bury the head and put something over the antlers either wya you risk mice and squirrels knawing on the horns. Boiling only take 6-8 hours max I would recommend that.

Skin, boil for 45 minutes and take a power washer to it or take it to the carewash with a pocket full of quarters. It'll turn out 1000X better than the hanging from a tree idea.

Scrape all the head stuff off and boil it lightly for 20 min.
    Repeat until clean.
    Bleach skull only.
Clear coat poly on skull only.

Prepare to get your rump chewed by the wife for making brain soup and get ready for a stinky girl candle to burn for days... Priceless...

I cut off 2 heads last year that I buried from the bottom of the antlers down. I put a huge water bucket over the top of both of them to protect the antlers from rodents and sun bleaching. I think they were buried around June, and by October they were just about clean when I pulled the. I still need to boil them to clean off all the dirt, but I imagine they won't take a lot of work to get clean.

With the cold this time of year it will take awhile. Not many bugs and bacteria to do the job!
