i use a 35 Gallon drum with a moultrie feeder head and it works flawless. i just hang it from a tree but im gonna build some legs for it
The pvc works good also but i dont use the "Y" or "T" i just cut a slice out of the pipe at the bottom of the pipe. my corn was getting moldy so scraped the "Y" and havnt had a problem. try youtube the got some fancy ones if you got the time to build them
You can also bolt a couple of legs and a bottom plate onto the pipe. Once a pile pours out on the plate that's tall enough, the flow will shut off automatically until the deer eat the pile down and it'll refill itself (the plate) until empty.
I've been thinking of getting a plastic welder and using PVC pipe or polyethelene, like 12" with caps with a gravity style bottom and plastic weld it together. I think they would work slick and no stupid batteries to have to recharge all the time.
I dont know how much your looking to spend but if you want a cheap feeder you can get a nudge feeder for 20 bucks that pours out food when the deer nudges the handle. If you put some of that liquid apple stuff on it it might work out for you.
Hey there is a guy on the shed hunting forums that has pictures of a homemade deer feeder. It looks like an easy simple plan, check it out.
That's the kind of feeders I make and use! I buy a 10' length of sewer pipe, cut it in half and I can make 2 feeders! You can buy PVC screens to go in the bottom and that lets the water go through! That's how I made mine. Then on top, buy a cap to put on it. I take rope and tie the feeder to a tree. They work very well too! Here's a picture from my deer cam. If you need me to take a better picture, let me know!
I am also using a pvc feeder, If you use whole kernal corn, it won't get moldy. And drill holes in the bottom.
Having a screen on the bottom sounds better then drilling holes if its above the ground. Thanks for the advice.
If you go this route use a drain screen plug on the bottom of that 3 way adapter allowing rain to drain through rather than sit in there and rot the corn/feed. Helped a friend of mine build a bunch of these and thats what he did. They all worked great and he had tons of pic on his trail cams to do inventory on his deer. They seem to work great from his experiences, I personally don't have the pleasure in trying them as I am from NY. Good Luck!
Here is what I make, Its a five gallon bucket with a lid. I put a 2 1/2 inch hole on the side by the bottom. Feed runs out a little bit then plugs up. More feed runs out as the animals eat it. They last about a week then I bring another one in. I put duct tape over the hole when I carry them in, and peel the tape off when i get to where I want it.
Cover the top so the rain (and squirrels) can't get in. I used these before WI banned feed in any container. I used a 6" top pipe with the 4" 45 degree T.
