I have an idea or 2 about a homebrew security box for my trail cam, but I'm open for more suggestions.

Have any of you made one? If so, do you have a pic and what you used?

One guy I talked to said make heavy duty one out of wood. Well as I see it, wood is not secure enough. I am thinking more along the lines of 1/8" steel or an electrical junction box with a place for a lock.

I don't have any pictures but a while back some guy on HNI posted a pic of a security box he made from an old ammo box. Looked pretty sturdy to me and since it's made of steel you sould do just about anything you wanted in the way of modifications.

I've never made one, but that junction box idea

sounds promising. Let us know if you come up with something

    that works.

Today I got a hold of a heavy duty junction box that might work out perfect.

    Cost: free :tu:

Next step is a little notching and drilling, then installing locking devices. Oh and I will more then likely cover it up with camo duct tape.

All that is left now is the lock latch and hole drilled in the back for lag bolts.

    After a little cutting....
    and trimming....
    She fits like a glove.
Next step was to cut an opening for the flash, sensors, shutter lens and such.
Then throw a little camo tape on it and its good to go.

Thanks...If I wanted it to be perfect, I would have set it up on the mill and had nice square cuts. But I didnt feel like making this a super technical project. More like something that almost anyone can do.

Can the hole be cut open with a pair of snips to get at the camera?

I took tin snips to a piece I cut off of it and there is no way, unless you are freakishly strong, to cut it. It it pretty thick material. I believe a residential model box would be thin enough to cut, but this box came out of a factory that has closed its doors.

The finished product looks very good and you played practically nothing for it.
