What is the best home theatre speaker system I can get for less than $1000? Excluding the receiver.

I am looking at the Bose accuimast (sp?) 10 system currently.

Thanks for any help. I have been out of the electronics game for a long time now and lots have changed.

Bose has always been good. I haven't looked at that one but the one I have is great.

Bose has some of if not the best mids and highs going but if you want low end base,(explosion scenes)you may want to look else where.

All in all, hard to beat Bose.

I am running Polk Audio but I have towers and a 10" sub but they cost a bit more than what you are wanting to spend.

This is a very subjective thing, kinda like bows. What I like you may hate.Like with bows,go in the surround rooms and check them out.

Thanks for the advice.. I would spend more if I could justify it.... I just can't at this time. Between the tv, blueray, stereo reciever, hdma cables and such, it is a lot of coin to this guy :)

Believe me,I know.I built my surround first, then, went to the blueray,240 hz 55" truled TV.I saved a bunch going with the Vizio but I truly feel it is the best bang for the buck going.I would say it even surpasses MOST that cost much more than it.

I am running an Onkio receiver but to be honest,it isn't as nice as my Harmon Kardon I was running that is a few years older. It just has 1080p upscaling. I hear the Denon is the way to go but not user friendly.

I am coming off of Bose floor speakers they sounded great. Each box had two 8's and four highs. Like I said, sounded great for rocking out the house with music but left a lot to be desiered for tv and movies compared to a 5.1surround.

There are much better speakers for the money if you are looking at Bose.

I am a huge fan of Paradigm out of Canada, have a 7.1 setup in the living room and 5.1 in the bedroom. The Living room is running off a Yamaha RX-V750 Receiver and the Bedroom is an older Harmon Kardon AVR85.

I also had Definitive Technology in the past and they were great. Definitive has a great $800.00 5.1 system (ProCinema 600) and their (ProCinema 800) is pretty killer but pricey ($1200) The 800 is well worth the extra coin though if you can spare it.

I wouldn't think twice about picking up the Definitive Technology over Bose.

In high school I worked in high end home theater. At that time we sold Bose and Jamo.

95% of customers came in asking for Bose. We would first demo that and they thought it sounded great. We then asked them what they thought of the other brand we carried (Jamo) and they were blown away. I think we sold one Bose unit in the 4 years I worked there. Once they heard the Jamo it wasn't even a comparison.

To this day still have my SAT 250 Jamo system that I purchased 16 years ago.

No idea who is the best of high end now. If I was purchasing again I would try and find a Jamo retailer and check them out.

    Something like this:

Can anyone help me with this system, I just had it given to me, and I know nothing about home theater systems.

The speakers are JBL SAT20 I have 5 of them.

The receiver is a SONY Model # STR DE-835

The sub woofer is a JBL BASS20 120 volts, 60 HZ

I am looking to sell the whole set up, and have no idea what it is all worth, anyone have any idea?

I believe that is the same one.I had to order mine and have yet to see one in a store around here.Actually just checked and mine is a VF551XVT

Here is a cheap cell pic, can't tell much other than my daughter is weird. I had just won the other TV at work.

If you look real close, you can see my center channel directly under the base of the TV.Looks like it is sitting on it.

Well... An update for you guys who gave advice thoughout this.

    I went Polk Audio.

I ended up putting two tower speakers (tsi300's), a center channel (cs10) and a 10" sub(psw10) up front with two bookshelfs (t15's) for my rear channels.

Sounds great much better than my old Bose setup did!

I am using a little older system with the dipold/bipold surrounds.FXi30's(not towers)

    The towers are RTi 30's

    center is a CSi 40

and the sub is a PSW40(10" sub)

This system has been the root cause of more arguments with the wife than anything. She needs to just record TURN IT DOWN so she doesn't have to say it as much.:poke:I don't know what she would do if I actually got a really high end system.
