that is not an angry mom website..are you an educator? that is straight of freedom works web site a libertarian leaning think tank... Common core basically takes us back to the original intent of public education... in the words of the founders of public education.. public education was never intended to create an intelligent people or men or letter but to create a work force for the the state, paraphrasing slightly but you can look up the original intent of public education by it's founders..
I'm not really a fan of home schooling because generally speaking, home school kids are not socially adjusted. We had a couple kids in our school that were home schooled for their elementary years, and when they were introduced into the public school system they have a very difficult time adjusting. They just didn't have the social skills. I think private school is a good option provided you can afford it. Generally speaking I would expect teachers at a private school to be more engaged. My daughter attends public schools and we have our battles. I feel like the public school system is only concerned with our children doing well on the standardized tests. I think their education suffers because of this. They certainly teach the test and prepare the students for the tests. It's kinda sad, but if a kid doesn't have money in their lunch account, they are only given a PB&J sandwich, unless it is during the standardized testing. On those days, they are all provided breakfast and a full lunch. This irritates me beyond belief. I think, for the most part teachers are engaged and want our children to learn, but are forced to push the standardized tests by the administration. Our school recently had 3 long time teachers quite. Two of the three went to school there themselves, and the other was teaching there since I was in school. I'm positive part of the reason the quite was because they were being forced to push common core and they felt it was not in the best interest of their students. There is no one size fits all approach to education. Every child learns differently, and at different speeds. It should be the teachers job to identify the best way to teach each student and be able to implement a plan to educate that student. Common Core and standardized testing is bad for our future.
Anyone who believe common core is a good thing is flat out wrong and what you know about its based on misinformation and flat out wrong.. But go ahead and believe what you want your government would never lie to to you.... not going to comment further on this thread as it will counter productive especially if you mind is already made up.....
We have homeschooled our boys for the last three years. Next year they are attending a private Christian school. The public schools around here aren't bad but extremely crowded, 30 some kids per classroom compared to 12 in the private.
We are all going to do what we feel is best for our families. Whether it's vaccinations, health care, or schooling. That's the beauty of our country, if you don't like the mainstream approach you are free to do your own thing. My wife and I feel that that public schools in our area are not able to provide the best possible education for our children so we have homeschooled and now I think they need more structure along with their learning so on a very limited budget we are sending them to private. Others are perfectly happy with the public schools for their own reasons and that's what they choose.
Location, location, location. Living in the right neighborhood or close enough to the right school should be made a priority if you want to up the odds of success for your children. I feel a good public school education is better than the private or home schooling route.
Why do you feel that your stance on the subject is so correct? Are you an educator? I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're also a doomsday prepper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
To answer the original post, my kid will be going to public school. We are fortunate to live in one of the top systems in the U.S. Both my wife and I went to public school and my wife is a public school elementary teacher. Home school kids are weird too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
like I said will not comment on CC any further..just please do the research... Now the original topic on which school our oldest who is 21 did the home school route it was all done online with a certified online high school It was the bast fit for him.. He is a extreamly itellnget kid but traditional school just was not working for him He was getting straight As but was going to be failed because of skipping school, so we went the home school route and he thrived..He is now working his way through college with a little help from us.. The Middle son 20 stayed in public school all the way through graduation was a straight A student and in the orchestra took all accelerated classes and is currently attending GA southern on a music schoolorship.. Our youngest 19 who attended a special needs private school and has autism and aspergers graduated this year and is at home, we are still trying to figure out what he is going to do , We sent him to this school because special ed in public school can be aweful not always but sadly these kids tend to fall through the cracks.. We are currently looking into several programs for him..
It's because you can't commit on CC, my wife actually teaches to the standards and gives speeches on cc in Lansing. She gets invited back every year, but what the F does she know, right?
So you want to drag me back into this OK I will bite not here to make friends with those who are blind. good for your wife...she is horribly misinformed though many very good teachers have left because of CC I watched a round table recently with several teachers who have left teaching because of CC.... It puts all the power with the Gov and all away from local school boards and parents,Common Core standards are part of a bigger movement towards stifling teachers. The Common Core standards themselves were actually developed by Achieve Inc. No teachers were in the work groups who drafted the standards. Almost all the people in the feedback groups were university professors, and of the reviewers, not one was a K-3 teacher, early childhood professional or parent. One K-12 teacher was found to be in the entire process and any other K-12 teachers associated with the products were brought in after the fact mostly to endorse and legitimize them. They say that the standards are only a guide. But they are misleading everyone because by over-emphasizing tests and grading teachers with formulas and test scores demanded by both No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top. Good and great teachers leave and are replaced by new and cheap workers more willing to follow fool-proof, factory-like, prescribed lesson plans. In fact, the average teaching tenure has dropped from approximately 15 years of service in 1990 to less than five in 2013. it's bad for our kids and dang sure bad for America...
I went to public school. I accelerated past my grade level and could have graduated a year earlier. My parents offered to put me into private school, but I did not want to go through the religion they offer. Looking back, I should have. I was top of my class, I had my first year of college almost completed when I graduated - but it wasn't the school experience I wanted. It was boring. I was picked on - my days were miserable. I went on to college, graduated, and was offered a scholarship to advance my education even further - but I had enough. However, it does seem the curriculum is better fitted at the school district I went to now then it used to be. Private, public, or home schooling are all fine if it fits the child right. Each child is different and parents should know their child well enough to know if they should be in school vs. being at home. I worry of school shootings daily, but to be honest, they could happen anywhere (even at my work) - so put that aside and do what's right. I'll send my children to (public) school and see how they do. If they want to keep going there, great. If they want to be homeschooled, we will look into it. Home schooling offers a lot of perks. If my DH and I are in a place to allow our children to be home and continue to hunt, do 4H, show animals, travel etc...I think it'd be a great experience for them. But, regardless, education does come first, no matter what form and they will graduate with a diploma.
OK... Let me make an observation or guess...you live in southern MI Your wife is a teacher in the teachers union I am guessing you used to work for or still work for a union company.. You are a life long democrat who believes your Gov is here to fix all of our problems and can do no wrong, you voted for Obama not once but twice.. You don't like conservatives or libertarians of which I am one BTW.. I may be wrong on all counts but don't think I am to far off.. Stop blindly believing everything you hear about common core and do a little research not just from the pro side.. Stop being ignorant and educate yourself....Common core sucks period.. not calling you stupid calling you ignorant there is difference ask your school teacher wife..
