WEll I made it again to the Vietnam Veterans gathering in Kokomo, Indiana. Had a great time reviving old lies and tales. In years past as many as 50,000 have attended the 3 day event. To me it looked like attendance was down a little this year.... but that's because a lot of us are dying off. Still, it was a full house. I spent most of the long weekend(got there Thursday) with my first charges... people I trained and then took to Vietnam as their Platoon leader. I did hook up with some folks I commanded during my second tour as a Troop Commander. But Kokomo has been the place for me to hang out with my platoon. WE had two new guys this year that had never made it. It turned out great for them and the rest of us. 25 of us from the troop for dinner every night but that includes wives. Laughed and cryed or butts off. The worlds finest... all old and fat and bald.... and we had a blast.
Sounds like a great experience. Thanks for your service. Touching to think of what a lot of people have gone through so that we can enjoy our freedoms. Too many of us take that for granted. Blessings to you and all that have and will serve.
First, I must apologize for the number of stop lights in Kokomo. That said, thank you for your service. So many people have given everything so that we can enjoy our freedoms, our country, our families, our fellow Americans. Though it'll never be asked, we are fully endubted to our service men and women. My uncle used to work for the local power company that are huge sponsors of a lot of events here in Indy. One event was that every year for the 500 they bring in all the medal of honor recpients. The night before they have a big dinner for them. I asked every year but was never able to attend. Last year I took the my girls to the parade. We shared a golf cart with the helicopter pilot from the Battle of la Drang. I was absolutely speechless. I wish I could have figured out something to say, but words simply couldn't express the awe I was in. I never did get to go to that dinner. It's highly unfortunate because that is something almost nobody will ever get to experience. Again, thank you. If you go next year, bring your bow, I'll bring my target up and we'll shoot.
