Does anyone have any recomendations or design ideas for some home built tree stands? My dad has his own machine shop so I'm planning on building myself a nice tree stand or two for next year, but am looking for some design ideas. Him and my brother have built some for themselves, but the two I have sat in weren't all that comfortable so I'm hoping to make something new and different.

I'd guess you are talking about making a hang on. I'd take a good look at some proven comfy models and try to duplicate The main factor for comfy would be seat height and size. If you are planning on leaving it up all season I'd make a large platform with seperate seat so you modify it for your comfort.

As cheap as you can buy a good, engineered, safe lock on, i wouldnt chance it with a homemade one. But on the other hand, I have no building skills what so ever.

You buy one cheaper than you can make one these days.

I totally agree, I'd really weigh the costs of building vs buying. If it's close, I'd buy. I tend to let the people who know about stuff do their thing. Good luck to you,

Yeah, that was one other thing I was thinking about. With Bass Pro shop finally opening up here there are definatly some good cheaper options out there. I was just thinking that if I could make 3 good ones for around the price of one cheaper one than I would. Looks like I'll have to check the current steel prices.

My thoughts exactly! This time of the year you can often buy a quality stand for less than the material costs you to build it, even if you count your time as nothing.

I bought 7 really nice Remington Lock-on stands (HUGE platforms) for $13 each, lol.

If you have Rural Kings around you, check those, you can often times find GREAT clearance prices on their stands and you can put them on layaway, and buy alot that way!
