Hey guys, After you get into your stand and you're ready to pull up your bow with a rope, is your bow just laying straight on the ground?? Where I hunt there are a ton of little sticks, scrub sprouts, leaves etc and I'm worried about getting dirt in/on the string and pulleys and damaging something...ditto for lowering it after the hunt...is this a legit concern? What do you guys do?
Some times I lay it flat, sometimes I lean it up. All depends on the terrain. I'll check the cams for big debris. Make sure to keep you string waxed regularly, this will help it stay clean.
I have my rope tied to where it is high enough where the end of the rope is at eye level, so my bow is hanging in the air, until I pull it up.
This is what you do! Make one or buy mine... Simple! And your morning hunts will rock! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230672767032 "SilentSling"
I have a rope that is like 3 ft off the ground with a loop on the end. I just put the loop through the cam and over the stabilizer and then its hangs off the ground, and is easy to get off.
Like a few other guys said, my rope is about 5-6 ft off the ground. I have a small snap hook on the end for easy on/off. Simple, effective, no snags.
i do it a little different. I have a screw in step that I rubber coated. I put this in the tree head height. set my bow on the step. I have a 30 ft long hoist rope that I use at all my stands. Wrap the rope around a stick thats 8" long with a V on each end, and it fits perfect in my backpack. I hook up the rope, feed off enough line, climb up, then reach out over my stand and allow the bow to slide off the step, pull it up, and hunt. on the way down, i just let it rest on the sticks, etc. I prefer this method, because of hunting on public ground, and have 30+ stand sights on various private lands. Too many ropes to worry about dry rotting, and too much scent being left on them from your hands, and flapping in the wind.
