Ok i know this website is for mostly topics about deer....but i was sittin in the stand last night watching a doe and a small buck when all the sudden they took off.....so i thought maybe they winded me or somethin.....then outta the cattails comes 30 wild hogs.....so tell me what to do....if they are gonna scare off every deer around should i go out there with a Mini 14 and have a hay day or should i just let them be and go hunting like they are not even there.....cause what i have been thinking is that they are gonna root up and eat every acorn on the place...then go and root up all the food plots....some one please tell me somethin....please....:mad:

Try trapping them, it's the best way to get them off your place IMO. If you go in guns blazing you'll most likely kill one or two and thats it. Not to mention you may run the deer off for a while. Just my .02

Invite me over and I will shoot them until I run out fo arrows!! I love hunting hogs its a blast.
And yes they will slowly destroy everything in their path if they arent controlled. Try shooting a few every chance you get they are good eating. Ask around there may be people already trapping in your area, I know of a guy who traps them and sells them to asians I believe and makes a little money on it.

Kill em with your bow every chance you get and set some traps for them. That'd be my strategy. Fun, lots of meat BETTER than deer, and you'd be attempting to solve your problem.

There is a guy here who traps them, he will take the smallest one and put a radio collar on them. That way he can always find the group, they call it the judist pig. Pigs will take up with any social group so once you kill all them and leave you little guy alone he goes to the next group and so do you. In the south we hate them and they destroy everything. Alot of farmers offer permission to hunt for the gurantee that you kill every pig on site regardless of your deer pursuits.

We shot a Wild Pig p here in Northern WI a few years back & Were praying to see another one come into bow range.......

I would NOT shoot any of them & I would NOT go out & trap anything because you will disrupt the woods....... I would consider shooting them with a bow due to its silent ways............

With all the craze of hunting these pigs - im sure you wouldnt have a hard time finding people to bowhunt them

The bad thing about hunting them with the intention of removal is the rate that they breed. Assuming 4 females per litter and two litters per year, after five years, one sow can produce an exponential family tree of over 8,500 female pigs (excluding natural death, predators and hunting)

    8,500 females...

Have you ever eaten wild hog? It's disgusting, compared to a domestic hog.

I feel this guys pain. Most people who replied to this thread obviously have never dealt with a hog infestation. It can be hell.

Wild hog eats alright, but it's extremely sensitive to how you cook it. Hog infestation is HORRIBLE. Trapping doesn't disturb much of anything, not sure why anyone would think it does. You aren't going to run any more deer out than the hog themselves...

That is right Dubbya, by the time the hogs take out all the food the deer are gone anyway. I know you guys have them in Ok and Tx, but we have some areas down in S. GA where you see 50 or more hogs for each deer. As I said before, it has gotten so bad that farmers will only let you hunt if you promise to shoot everyone on site.

I was in a hunting lease for a number of years in LaSalle parish Louisiana. It was 5500 acres, 36 hunters and the last three years that I was a member we killed a TOTAL of seven deer (five does, two bucks) on the property. We were trapping a couple hundred hogs a year though.

They destroy everything they come in contact with. Food plots are a waste of time with hogs around, they will root it up as soon as the find the seeds. Feeders will last until the hogs figure out that there is food inside the drum. They will then do their best to destroy it.

We set corral traps all over the land and were catching 30 or so at a time but still couldn't tell a difference. Everywhere we went, pigs. We would have needed ten times as many corrals just to make an impact I think. I have since left that lease due to many reasons but the hog infestation was certainly one of them

Kill every hog you see. Our lease had an overrun of them about 2 years ago. We hunted and trapped them hard. (Cage traps). They wise up to traps pretty quick. I shoot at least one every year. They breed like rabbits.

Love the judas Pig Idea..... Its brilliant. IF you are really concerned about it, there are people you can hire to take care of such things. Deer will come back. Herd culling works wonders. and white buffalo is very good at killing things. `
