So, I’m interested in doing a archery hog hunt. I’m from Indiana and we don’t really have feral hogs nor have I ever hunted them. I really don’t want to do a fenced hunt I don’t think, so what states and public land areas are best for hog hunting? Do I hunt them like I would deer?
East texas has some public land available for hog hunting. Sam Houston National Forest is open for it year round, but I dont think you can bait for them. So you are going to have to scout an area for roots, wallows, tracks, and muddy rubs on trees. Then from there you can sit all day listening close for hog noises, sticks breaking, leaves being tossed, logs being stomped on (they do this to break them open to eat the bugs inside). And if you do hear any of these noises you could put a stalk on them and you might come out successful.
hogs sense of smell is unreal, and they travel in large groups so they are hard to hunt. If your able to bait them and I think you are in most places, mix koolaid and Corn let it set a few days they will find it quickly.
I may have the chance to hunt them in TX next January. I’m pumped and plan on taking all my weapons: bow, long gun & pistols.
lol if you knew how much of a pain in the a$$ those hogs were you would understand it’s doing any land owner a favor to get them killed.
Lol. I know they are a pain, I have plenty on my land in FL and in South Georgia, I just wanted an excuse for a road trip to the beautiful OK
They are fun to shoot but they breed mega fast and they are just endless. I feel like their presence affects my deer too. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Fort Rucker in Alabama is a over ran with them. I went down there a couple of weeks ago with a buddy and had success still hunting them. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
