Talking with people around our area, word had it that a nice buck was shot on the property that borders our place during the 1st Shotgun season. Obviously, I wanted to hear more about the deer and get some specifics. I'd lived at our farm all summer working for a company that is not too far away. Every evening I would drive the roads and check out the deer in the bean and alfalfa fields. I saw some nice ones, and one specific deer I saw 3-4 times. I'd guess him at 170" typical. Just mass everywhere, with lots of height....so I knew the kind of deer that were in the area. The game warden stopped by our farm yesterday and talked with my Dad. The CPO went on to tell Dad that the deer shot next door was a 201" MONSTER with a droptine! I lived there this summer, set out trail cams and scouted my butt off. So tons of deer, and a few nice deer that would score fairly high - but never a deer of this magnitude. They are amazing creatures. Still haven't seen a picture, hope to soon. An interesting side note, we really try to watch our farm. We hunt the wind, plant the plots, and do the things we believe that will tips the odds more in our favor. On the property that this dude was shot on, there were kids playing in the creek all summer, trespassers, and 4-wheelers on it almost all the time. They don't care what they shoot, and are more worried about filling their freezer. Just gotta control what you can control, I guess. :D
