Alright, so a few of y'all might remember a conundrum that I presented the good folks back on HNI. For those who do not know what I am talking about, I shall briefly explain the situation. I had a bachelor party to attend in Houston (I'm the best man) on a Friday night. The next Saturday morning, I had a 5k race in which I signed my Mom, sister, and girlfriend up to run. The race was 4 hours away. When I signed them up for the 5k, it was scheduled for the weekend before the bachelor party, but it was rescheduled. Also, when I signed them up for the 5k, I also promised each one of them that I would be there to support them, since none of them are what anyone would consider runners and this would be a truly monumental feat for them, especially my mom. So my conundrum was, should I skip my buddies bachelor party or the 5k? Either way, I would piss someone off (one of my best friends or the 3 most important women in my life). Well, in order to satisfy everyone, I ended up attending the bachelor party AND the 5k race. Which meant, I drove 4 hours to Houston Friday evening, drank beer and ate $80 steak for a few hours, then played poker and drank lots of water till about 3 in the morning. When I had lost all of my money, I hopped in my truck and began the 4 hour drive to where the 5k race was located. No sleep for me that night. I stopped at a gas station and drank a 16oz NOS and a 5 hour energy shot. After about 15 minutes, I could feel my entire body shaking. After almost being hit head on by what I assume was either a drunk driver or someone else about to fall asleep and barely escaping robbery at a gas station at 5 am, I arrived in time for the 5k race at 7 am. Not only was I there to support my ladies, but I was also there to run the race, with no sleep and stomach cramps from the mixture of caffeine and steak from the night before. I'm actually quite proud that I still finished #1 in my age group and #22 overall (out of about 200). My Mom, sister and girlfriend all finished as well. After I finished, I ran back to each one of them and ran with the them rest of the race, cheering them on, offering them support. When I got home later than evening, I passed out from shear exhaustion. I just wanted to update some of y'all that gave me advice on HNI. I'm also quite proud of myself for this feat and the fact that I was able to make everyone happy. Me blazing across the finish line :d
Good God man get some sun on those legs! And way to be there for the people that matter on both sides of that equation.
You never take pictures at a bachelor party....EVER. Even though there wasn't a woman near this bachelor party. My buddy is mercilessly whipped and made me promise that there would be no strippers b/c his fiance threatened to call of the engagement if he came within 30ft of another woman. The best part was, though, while we were eating our horribly over priced steak dinner, she CALLED him and told him not to call her the rest of the night b/c her phone was broke. She was having her bachelorette party that night. Even after she pulled that not so clever stunt, he still refused to go... How do guys become so gutless? I guess that's an entirely different thread, though, huh?
That story could be a movie. Not like a blockbuster right off the bat, but maybe if it was one of those "Based on actual events" kind of movies... I don't know how you made it through the 5k. I do know that running after drinking is never a good idea. When I got sent to Okinawa, my last PFT, was 4 days before I left the island. My room mate, and all the cooks went out drinking the night before. We got back with enough time to change, and run to the gym where it started. Both my room mate and I were still drunk. I put my shoes on backwards, and he had his PT shirt inside out, and backwards. But, we made it on time. We did the pullups, and crunches with no problems, but when they said go for the 3 mile run, that was about it. I don't remember much, but from what I am told, everyone around us kept smelling alcohol. lol. I ended up passing the finish around 19:30. I just had this theory that I should try to keep up with my room mate. But I had to stop about three different times... Not good. We got back to the messhall afterwards, and ended up having to work all day, because the Sgt. running behind me slipped in an unknown substance on the trail. XD. Never again.
Way to go!! Congrats on getting all of it done & being a good friend, bro, son, bfriend. Great accomplishments
