So this is a buck we call Gimpy due to him not having use of his right front leg, I have never seen him use it. Anyway I haven't seen much of him since the first week of Nov until the last couple weeks. He showed back up a couple nights after "The Backyard buck" had shed his one side (other side still on btw) and he too was only packin one side so I thought he had shed. Well.. after looking closer at some pics of him from the night before last it appears he broke it off late season and the base is still there. HHmmmmm.... Agree?? Disagree??
Wasn't there an atricle in Bowhunting Magazine last month about injuries and deformations in antlers? Could it be since he has and injury to his right leg, his right side isn't growing to capacity now? I could be wrong about the article since I read it weeks ago and don't have it at work right now. Edit: I got home and looked through my magazines and couldn't find the article I was referring to. So I don't know where I read it but know I did somewhere.
I've read that before as we'll But both antlers looked good to begin with, I suppose it still could have been a weak antler. What I find interesting is this guy shows back up and broken the same 24 hr period that my Backyard buck knocked off his first side. I have a hunch they got into it.... But hard to say. Gimpy is actually the buck I intended on killin the night I killed "Grandpa"(see avatar) I figured I would take him out because of his injury, but he suddenly went AWOL for several weeks so neither myself nor my father ever got a shot at him. He's a decent buck for 2.5 but I wouldn't have put him on the list had it not been for his leg.
Also I believe an injury to right front leg would affect left antler growth while a right hind leg injury would affect right antler and vice versa ..... If my memory serves me.. Lol
