Beginner archer, Mathews FX2 65#, trophy taker rest, tube peep, 3 pin sight, arrow says--CF radial 'X' weave stl hunter 200 (cut for me at pro-shop), 100gr field tips. I have been doing well shooting, but have gotten a 3" left of center hitch happening. I am using a tru-ball release. My bow hand grip is wide open have a wrist sling and letting bow jump into hand. anchoring consistently and nose on string. I have a homemade target that has two spots in a vertical line. I can cover both spots with top and bottom pins. Yet arrows go 3" to the left of the vertical. I moved sight to the right and it still happens. Going to shop tomorrow (need arrow refletched anyway) and going to have him look too. Any ideas? Now just a question-it seems the longer I hold in draw the deeper the arrow penetrates the target, is this physics or just hitting worn out section of target? thanks
I dont think the longer you hold has anything to do with better penetration. I noticed you said that you were hitting left and you moved your sight to the right. You should have moved your sight left if you were hitting left. Always follow the arrow with your sight. If you hit high, then move your sight up. Hope this helps.
As far as i know compound bows have a stop for their max draw. if you try and over draw you can hurt the bow. you are probably just shooting the same spot in the bag and creating a weak spot. I have done it on my bag and open layer foam target so i drew a new target on each and it fixed the problem.
^ I think what you said here is the problem. You need to move the sights towards the arrow. If you aim center of target and arrow goes to the left, move your sight to the left. If adjusting a new sight I actually hold up the bow and look through the sight. I plant the bottom of the bow on my knee to keep it from moving and I'll loosen and slide the sight from where I was aiming to where the arrow hit. Works great! Good luck!
not to jump on the pile, but when sighting in (rifle, arrow, whatever) allows follow the shot. Miss high left? Move your sights high left... you get the idea.
Thanks everyone. Moved my sight to the left and I am better than before. As for hold and deeper shot, i think i have just wore out the target in those spots! Thanks for all the advice.
Rifle is opposite of arrows. You move the bullets/point of impact to the bulls eye. If the bullet shot was high right you would move the elevation down and windage left. That could be your confusion. Chase the arrow.
There ya go..... That set-up should be about right or real close on the spine, and holding has nothing to due with the "better" penetration, it's because that spot on the target is getting used up...
