So every day I go running, my 6 year old yellow lab (Daisy) goes with me. Well, last week it was in the mid 90's and I felt it was probably a little too hot for her to run with me because of damage she has to her heart from heartworms. (She was severely neglected by her previous owner). Anyways, when I got back from my run I decided to load her in the back of my truck (I have to pick her up and load her in the truck, she is too afraid to jump in on her own) and take her about a half mile down the road to my in-laws. I let her out to play with their beagle and she ran to play in the pond. When it was time to leave she was soaking wet, so I decided to let her run back down to her house since we live on seldom traveled county road. We have done this countless times just because I like to let her run and she enjoys trying to race me. Well, for some reason the other day she decided to dart underneath my back passenger side tire. Talk about a sickening feeling. I got out to grab her and put her in the truck as fast as I could and take her to the emergency animal clinic. The only thing that made me feel better was that she didn't have blood pouring out of her and she didn't appear to have any broken bones. I was concerned though, because she looked to be ripped open pretty bad. This all happened at about 6 pm. By the time I got her to the vet, had her surgery, and got back home it was 1 am before my head hit the pillow. She ended up having a really bad case of "road rash" and has about a 1 1/2 foot seam of stitches where she got ripped open on the inside of her hip. The total cost ended up being aobut $850. I hate to pay that much, but I wasn't about to let my dog die. She has had a bad enough life because of her previous owner and she just always brings a smile to my face no matter what kind of mood I'm in. I know a lot of people wouldn't have paid what I did, but I had no other choice. I love my dog too much to let her suffer. The good news is that she is well on her way to a full recovery and she will be back to normal within another week and a half.

I totally understand how you feel, I've spent over $700 on my female my bulldog this month because of some health issues which are clearing up now. I'm trying to get money saved for when I retire from the Army, but my dogs come first. Glad surgery went well and hope for a speedy recovery for her.

Hope she fully recovers. Had something similar happen with my dog and a quad once but luckily didn't hurt him. Scared me worse than him really.

Wow snake. Well I guess if it had to happen you couldn't ask for a better outcome really. No serious traumatic injuries is a good thing. My dog Abbie sliced her whole inner thigh open years ago hoping over a chainlink fence. She sliced it on the top little prongs that stick up. It was weird because like you said, it didn't bleed at all it was just almost like a scalpel slice of the skin. Had her stitched up (was about a foot long also) and she was fine in no time. She hated the cone dome thing around her neck she had to wear to keep her from pulling the stitches out with her teeth though. It was amusing to see her walking around with it on though. Haha

Haha yeah, the whole cone thing is funny. She absolutely hates it. She is on her second cone since it happened. The first one got destroyed in no time. She is healing up much faster than I thought she would. It's amazing how resiliant animals can be.

That sucks man but sounds like shes doin ok. I've spent some money on some of my dogs that's been hit and don't think twice about it. One only made it couple days and shouldn't of been brought back home from vet but its hard not to when they take ya in after a surgery and the tail starts wagging. We live on a pretty busy road for beimg in country so now the one I got is tied up a lot, which I hate to do, but got tired of seeing other dogs I've had get hit.

I hope she recovers quickly. She gives you UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and you are just doing the same in return.
We spent over $1500 last year on my Chow Chow because of some complications she had from a surgery and we didn't think twice about it. Why? Because she is part of our family. I paid $1500 for her and she is worth every penny. She has been allergic to lepto since she was a puppy and they have to sedate her every year when she gets that shot. So her vet visits cost more than normal. All in all, we have spent over $5K since we got her nearly 7 years ago and I would do it all over again!

I am $6,000 deep into my 3 year old dog. She tore both her knees over the past two years. :(

I went from broke to broke as heck.....but my girl is ok and my family loves her.

I agree with everyone else. If it were my dog I would drop the cash to. My dog is like my kid I would do anything for him. Glad to hear your dog is recovering well.
