    Hey guys,

I shot a decent buck around noon today. I think I hit it a touch high. My arrow was sticking in him as he took off. I'm guessing 5 inches of penetration. It was a 10 yard shot from about 20 feet up. There is no blood at all where I hit him. I followed his tracks to where I lost sight of him and didn't see any blood. I gave him an hour before I followed his tracks for 100 yards or so. I backed out and waiting for a friend to help after dark.

Any thoughts/ opinions? It seemed like he took off on a death run. Didn't find my arrow.

With the little information on every thing, it's possible you may have lodged into a vertebrae or one of those technical terms Christine uses

If so you can track him for years, preferably with trail cams.

5" of penetration isn't much for a 10 yard shot, to me that would mean lodged in something.

I did the same thing earlier this year. The buck I shot is still alive. I had about the same amount of penetration as I hit him high in the shoulder. It's gonna be tough tracking him after dark, as there most likely won't be much if any blood to follow. Good luck, hope you got enough penetration and find him.
